This checklist is essential for fashion entrepreneurs and their designers to ensure a smooth and successful production process.

Here’s a 12-point pre-production checklist:

1. Finalized Designs:

– Are your fashion designs finalized and approved?

– Have you created detailed technical drawings or specifications for each garment?

– Are there callouts for details (embroidery, prints, labels?)

2. Materials and Fabrics:

– Have you sourced all the necessary fabrics, materials 

– Do you and your supplier agree on the trims and BOM for your designs?

– Have you conducted quality checks on materials to ensure they meet your standards?

3. Competitive Analysis:

– Have you tested the sample garments (prototypes) for fit testing and quality assessment?

– Did you provide detailed comments for the corrections that were required

– Were any necessary revisions made to the samples?

4. Tech Packs:

– Have you prepared detailed tech packs for each garment, 

– Does the Tech Pack Includes pattern specifications, sewing instructions, and materials information?

– Does the tech pack includes call outs to detailing like printing, embellishments or embroidery etc.

– Does the tech pack provide clear packing instructions?

5. Production Timeline:

– Did you established a Production timeline that includes deadlines for each phase of production?

– Are you allowing adequate time (buffer) for any unforeseen delays?

6. Production Team and Partners

– Have you selected reliable manufacturers and suppliers?

– Is your team aware of your quality and design standards?

7. Pre-Production Samples (PP)

  – Have you approved the pre-production-samples (PP Samples) to serve as references for the entire production process?

  – Are pre-production samples approved for quality, fit, and design accuracy?

10. Quality Control Procedures:

  – Have you defined and documented quality control procedures for each production stage?

    – Are you prepared to conduct rigorous quality checks at key production milestones?

11. Costing and Budgeting:

– Did you calculate the production costs, including materials, labour, and overhead?

– Did your supplier share open costing to provide clear breakdown of cost for different line items?

– Did you calculate your landing price – this would include product price and freight + taxes

– Does your budget allow for any unexpected expenses or adjustments?

12. Legal and Compliance:

    – Are all necessary legal agreements and contracts in place with your production partners?

    – Have you ensured compliance with labor, safety, and environmental regulations in your production facility?
