Winter and Rain - what to wear and buy (in Israel or abroad)

As you know, it is raining in Jerusalem, Israel and is predicted to snow tonight (1/26/2022).

I usually commute to school or work and get caught in the rain. When the busses stop running and they close Highway 1 (a popular route to leave and enter Jerusalem)

To make the situation a bit better, I bought a bag cover (to prevent my laptop and books from getting wet). Initially, I bought one at Rikoshet (local camping supply store) for the army for about 80 NIS. After that one ripped, I started to look elsewhere. I found online for $8 at most places, but on Aliexpress for as little as $1.99 with free shipping (if you don't mind waiting a month for it to arrive). Make sure to get one that is larger than the size of your bag, or else it may not fit nicely. Most commuter bags are around 25 to 35 Liters.

Next, I upgraded to a slightly better umbrella - many umbrellas have inverted on me (flipped inside out) due to the wind... this one hasn't yet...

And a good rain jacket - this one is really light and is best for the summer or warm and rainy days... or you can wear it on top of a regular coat. It rarely snows in Israel, but it does get chilly

and gloves are also helpful - prevent skin dryness and irritation.

Lastly, rain boots are also important. Blundstone shoes and boots are generally not water-resistant and are made out of leather. Please don't wear these when it's pouring, unless you water-proofed them (with a special spray). They are comfortable and stylish, but I would hate for your shoes to be ruined due to the weather. I was recently recommended to try ECCO Gore-Tex Boots (they have styles for men, women, and children too!)

While I do support buying local, I am 6 feet tall & the coats here are generally too small and the gloves don't fit my hands nicely. In addition, large and wide shoe sizes aren't available at most stores and outlets. It certainly helps if you could try a pair of shoes on before buying at the store, but I've been hard-pressed to find many stores with various sizes and reasonable prices.

For the best prices, it is advised to buy winter and rain gear in the summer during the off-season. Brands tend to change styles and want to move more inventory during these months.
