5 Discontinued Rolex Watches As Of 2021 – Highly Collectable!

Whenever Rolex adds new watches to its catalogue, they will inevitably discontinue some models. And anytime the brand upgrades its catalogue, the action influences the overall Rolex watch market. However, Rolex’s catalogue today has many discontinued watches to discuss, and it is significant to note that discontinued models are becoming increasing collectable. Here are five of the most popular discontinued Rolex watches as of 2021.

  1. Rolex Explorer 214270

The recently discontinued Rolex Explorer Reference 214270 exhibited a combination of the Submariner No Date and the Oyster Perpetual 39 watch features. The watch featured a 39mm monobloc steel middle case like the OP and a trapezoid, flat profile of the steel Submariner 40mm.

Moreover, it had a high-polished, domed bezel what Rolex refers to as ‘Smooth’. The Explorer Ref. 214270 was water-resistant up to 100m and powered by the in-house Calibre 3132.

  1. Rolex GMT-Master II Batman 116710BLNR

The GMT-Master II Ref. 116710BLNR was one of the stars at Baselworld 2013, flaunting the new blue and black ceramic bezel, hence the nickname ‘Batman’. The Rolex Batman continues to fly off the shelves even after its discontinuation.

The watch’s resale value is closer to its retail value and can be even more. With a solidly constructed case, polished bracelet and striking bi-tone bezel, the Batman sit proudly in any collection, boosting the appeal.

  1. Rolex Submariner Hulk

Rolex discontinued one of its most popular models of all time, the ‘Hulk’, in 2020. The double green colourway may have failed to appeal to collectors initially. But the watch steadily became a genuine Rolex Holy Grail watch over the years.

The aftermarket went wild on the Hulk’s discontinuation in 2020, and eventually, its demand and prices have skyrocketed. Today, an unworn Submariner Hulk fetches even a higher premium.

  1. Rolex Datejust Turn-O-Graph Ref. 116264

Rolex discontinued the Turn-O-Graph for years, rereleased the modern versions in the 2000s and marked its end in 2011. The brand introduced the Turn-O-Graph as a special Datejust with a rotatable bezel. However, Reference 116264 specifically featured unique material configurations, complementing a dynamic red seconds’ hand, red date and the ‘TURN-O-GRAPH’ text in red.

  1. Rolex Sea-Dweller Ref. 116600

The Rolex Sea-Dweller 40mm Reference 116600 was produced for a comparatively shorter period. Rolex introduced it in 2014 and discontinued the model officially in 2017. Two of the defining features of the watch are the matte dial and the entirely graduated bezel. After its discontinuation, the value of Reference 116600 has surged by nearly 33%.
