Who is Ganesha?
The child of the first divine couple Shiva and Parvathi, Lord Ganesha is the most famous deity of the Hindu Pantheon.

Lord Ganesha is the most benevolent of all deities and comes to the rescue of his devotees at the merest mention of his name.
Each of Ganesha’s names alludes to his various special qualities as a leader with an elephant head, a rescuer from suffering and the destroyer of enemies.
Since he is Vignahartha and destroyer of obstacles and harbinger of success, he is revered before any new enterprise/venture is undertaken. Every Puja/festival for other Gods is preceded by an invocation of Lord Ganesha.

GANESHA CHATURTHI
Ganesh Chaturthi falls in the Shukla Chaturthi of Bhadra month of Hindu calendar (August-September). It is the day when he was born, hence prayers on this day becomes more significant. According to one legend, it is also the day when the moon got salvation from his sin of insulting Ganesha.
