National Grandparents’ Day in the United States has been a relatively new addition to the parade holidays that are celebrated in this country. President Jimmy Carter signed the legislation that detailed the first Sunday after Labor Day as “National Grandparents’ Day” in August of 1978. According to the preamble of the statute, the purpose of the holiday is to “honor Grandparents, to give grandparents an opportunity to show Love for their children’s children, and to help children become of aware of the strength, information, and guidance older people can offer.”
