A LEGO® Love Story…

With arguably the most romantic day of the year making an appearance this week, we’ve decided to look back at the Love stories of some of our favourite LEGO® characters.

A MAD LOVE – Harley Quinn & The Joker

Who are they and how did they meet?

Obviously, we know that The Joker is a major super-villian and archenemy of Batman. The master criminal with a clown – like appearance  is considered one of the most iconic and infamous criminals in Gotham City.
Promising psychiatrist Dr Harleen Quinzel, met The Joker in the Arkham Asylum when she volunteered to analyse him. He gained her sympathy, which led her to fall in love with him. She helps him escape numerous times and ended up in a prison cell herself when the authorities found out. The story goes that when there was an earthquake in Gotham City she fled and became Harley Quinn, The Joker’s sidekick. There love story is certainly an odd one as The Joker often manipulates and uses her as a pawn in his evil plans. But Harley is willing to do anything to further the ‘Clown Prince of Crimes’ goals – no matter the cost to anyone else or even herself.

A Superhero Love – Batgirl & Robin

Who are they and how did they meet?

Batgirl aka Barbara Gordon is the daughter of Police Commissioner Gordon and under her father’s nose, crafted her own costume and joined Batman’s crusade. She is also a genius level hacker and information broker and a proven fierce survivor. There are a few different stories about Batgirls love interests but she has links to Robin, Nightwing and Batman. In the comics, she has feelings for Dick Grayson (the original Robin who then becomes Nightwing), they were frequently referred to as the ‘Dynamic Duo’. They got engaged but when Nightwing had to leave with Batman, the engagement was broken off but they stayed friends.

An Awesome Love – Wyldstyle & Emmet.

Who are they and how did they meet?

The story goes that Wyldstyle a LEGO® Master Builder (part of a group of freedom fighters) has spent her whole life looking for the ‘Piece of Resistance’, a mysterious red plastic that can neutralise Lord business’ secret weapon. In her search for this mysterious object, she meets Emmet (a construction worker) at the construction site he works on. Emmet follows Wyldstyle on the site and falls down a hole and the ‘Piece of Resistance’ is there and sticks to him. When they first meet, Wyldstyle is actually Batman’s girlfriend but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of trust. Wyldstyle begins to see Emmet in a different light when he sacrifices himself to bring back the ‘Piece of Resistance’. She mourns for him. When Emmet returns from the void, she expresses her feelings to him. Batman admits that she would be better off with Emmet and gives his blessing.

A Prehistoric Love – Owen & Claire.

Who are they and how did they meet?

Owen Grady is a U.S. Navy Veteran and ethologist who was training and researching the Velociraptors at Jurassic World, formerly known as Jurassic Park. He met Claire at the park when she was the Operations Manager. In the first film they work together to track down the Indominus Rex when it escapes and bring order back to the chaos, through this, they fall for each other. In the second instalment (Jurassic World – Fallen Kingdom), they are no longer an item but are brought back together through Benjamin Lockwood. He needs them to capture the last remaining dinosaurs before they are killed by a volcano on the island to preserve their existence. Through there adventures saving the dinosaurs, they seem to rekindle what they had in the previous film.
