Bewell Wooden Watch Review

INTRODUCTION
PROFESSIONAL WOOD WATCH?

Welcome to our Bewell Wooden Watch review. The Bewell brand is owned by the Shenzhen Zhongshi Watch Co. Ltd. which has been manufacturing high-quality wood watches since 2007. It is only after 7 years of development in 2014 that they decide to sell their own wooden watches to the public.

For you guys who are thinking that they are another random Chinese watch manufacturer, well no. They have an actual ISO 9001 certification and has a pretty good reputation in Alibaba Assessment Report. But against the other wood watch companies like BOBO Bird and YISUYA, how does Bewell fare over the rest? We got one of their wood watches, and read on to find out how well it does!

SECTION A
UNBOXING & FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The watch is packaged in a cardboard box that is not the best quality but it is assuring to have. Most other budget watches don’t even come in a box and may suffer damage during delivery; The Bewell box may not be a collector’s item, but it does its job well of protecting the watch.

THE PACKAGING

Inside the cardboard box are:

  • The watch, held and sits safety on a cardboard piece.
  • An instruction manual in both English and Chinese. Teaches stuff like how to set the time with illustrations.
  • The watch warranty card is sorely missing.

So basically, you will have to pay for the repairs if bust this one. Although given the price of it, people are most likely just going to buy a new one. The good thing though, is that they have an address (in China) for servicing and a legit website printed on the box.

SECTION B
WATCH DETAILS

The wooden watch has so far left a pretty good first impression, so how about the watch itself though? Let us go through the watch in more details in section.

THE DESIGN

The watch has a clean design and has very limited features:

  • Does not have any kind of bezel functions.
  • A clean circular watch face with black markings and watch hands.
  • No subdials – no date, no calendar, no stopwatch. Just plain old time only.
  • No number markings on the dial. You might have a bit of difficulty reading the time if you are used to numbers.
  • Only the brand wordings, ‘BEWELL’ is shown at the watch face.
  • An overall brown color theme – Natural bamboo wood case and brown canvas straps.

FUNCTIONS

This watch only tells the time. Yep, that’s it, simple as that. A good thing though, it is a very straightforward watch and you can’t go wrong with it. It only has one crown on the right side, where you can pull out to set the time of the watch.

BUILD QUALITY

Both the watch case itself and the back of the watch are made of bamboo wood – These are very strong and resilient. However, you will have to clean the watch (using tung or lemon oil) more frequently than a stainless steel watch to prevent it from darkening.

The wooden case also does not do well against rapid temperature change and moisture. Extreme shifts in temperature will cause the moisture in the wood to freeze and then expand, leading to warps and cracks. Likewise, you should have guessed it – It does not have any water resistance. So using this watch for diving or swimming is definitely not a good idea.

As for the weight, it feels kind of light, which is no huge surprise for a watch that is made out of bamboo wood. The good news is, it is very comfortable to wear for long periods of time, also great for people who have a metal allergy.

WATCH MOVEMENT

Instead of the Chinese standard Tong Ji, Bewell claims to have adopted a Japanese Quartz movement (written on the box itself). There is really no way we can verify until we break the watch apart into pieces. But credits have to be given where due – This watch catches up with the time accurately even after a week of wearing it.

STRAPS

The watch strap is made up of canvas fabric that is actually pretty durable and comfortable to wear. It has some actual thickness to the material and seems tough enough to sustain some punishments. This is definitely not some cheap lousy fabric that wrinkle, peel, break apart, and “dissolves” with just some sweat.

The quality and workmanship are also pretty decent with no discolorations and frays. Very easy to adjust too, just a fuss-free piece of goodness. There is one bad thing with most fabric straps though, it “absorbs” dirt and gets filthy over time.

SECTION D
CONCLUSION

Compared to most other budget watches that we have reviewed, Bewell sure does well with their watch and packaging. While the watch itself may not be the most fantastic, but it still does very well given a price of just $15.

If you are looking for a simple wooden watch for yourself, or as a gift for your friends/loved ones, this is one that you can seriously consider. It really is a pretty good watch to have if you don’t expect too much bells and whistles.

THE GOOD

  • Has a decent packaging.
  • Very affordable budget watch.
  • Very comfortable to wear.
  • Simple design.

THE BAD

  • Limited in functions, only tells the time… Good if you like simplicity.
  • No warranty.
  • No water resistance.
