A TOP cyclist slaps a fan in rage after being knocked off his bike in the final few miles of a crucial mountain stage.

Miguel Angel Lopez, 25, has been fighting for the young rider's classification jersey at the Giro d'Italia and was in the final three miles of the 20th stage.

But an idiotic running 'fan' crosses his path at the worst possible time and sends him over the handlebars to the ground.

The raging Colombian strikes out at the spectator before attempting to get back on to his bike.

As he does so, Lopez comically clips the man around the head, sending his Baseball Cap Flying.

However the chain has fallen off Lopez's bike and he has to stop before popping it back on to the crank.

Lopez then gets a push off a bystander as he tries to get back to his rival riders, but also sports a nasty graze on his leg.

At the end of the stage Lopez lost around 30 seconds of time, but still managed to finish 18th on stage 20 of the Tour of Italy.

The Giro d'Italia finishes with an individual time trial in Verona on Sunday, but Lopez has been in the white young rider's jersey since the first week.

Britain's Hugh Carthy, 24, has also been vying for the same jersey actually glides past in a pink jersey in the same video.

But the Preston ace is unlikely to win the jersey after tomorrow's final stage.
