My Favorite Things – April 2018

April has been a great month so far!  I’m so excited that the weather is getting a bit warmer and I can finally start spending time on my new patio furniture (seriously, this is what being an adult is).  I’ve also had a really great month as far as products go, so I thought I’d share some of the ones that really hit the Nail on the head for me.  I mean, with the amount of money I spend at Ulta, something is sure to work, right ;)?

*Disclaimer, all thoughts are my own. I bought everything I’m reviewing*

Viviscal

My goodness, I had forgotten how awesome this product was.  Viviscal is a hair growth vitamin that surged in popularity a few years ago when Reese Witherspoon gave an interview and said she was using it. I originally tried this when it first gained popularity a while back, then I stopped using it because it was too expensive.  At that time, I think they were charging around $60 for a month supply.  Now, however, I managed to pick up a package of Extra Strength Viviscal from Ulta for only $19.99.  Score!

And y’all, I remember why I loved this stuff in the first place.  Not only does it make my hair grow super fast, but it helps my nails, too.  Since I’m frequently vitamin deficient and my nails have a tendency to peel and break, this is a huge bonus.  Also? It makes my eyelashes longer.  I swear, it’s true.  The only thing is, you have to give it about two weeks to really kick in, so if you start using it and don’t see results right away, give it another week and then reevaluate.

RapidLash

Which brings me to my next product, RapidLash.  I think it’s a combo of the two things, but my lashes are longer than ever.  There’s one that’s almost touching my eyebrow, no joke.  Hopefully, in a few months I’ll be writing a post reviewing a bunch of different eyelash growth serums (this will take me a few months and a few different product tests), but so far, so good.

OPI Nail Envy

Again, this might be as a result of the combo with Viviscal, but my nails have been very healthy and hard as nails lately.  I’ve been using my Opi Nail Envy pretty religiously. This is another throwback product, as I used to use this in high school and college to try to get my nails to grow long.  And since I’m not a huge fan of acrylics, but I like to have my nails a bit longer sometimes, I need a little boost. OPI Nail Envy definitely does the trick.

Too Faced Chocolate Gold Eyeshadow Palette

Granted, I just got this the other day, but after playing around with it for just a couple of days I already know I’m in love.  First of all, it smells like chocolate and is made partially of cocoa powder.  Um, what?! It does make me kind of hungry but I think that’s my own problem. Anyway, I had been looking for some more pigmented shades, and this palette really delivers.  My favorite colors so far are Chocolate Gold (duh), Money Bags, New Money, and Classy & Sassy, but they’re really all gorgeous.  Not an everyday palette for me because they’re all pretty sparkly, but awesome for a night out or just doing a selfie photo shoot.

Peter Thomas Roth FIRMx Peeling Gel

This one is from the spoils of a Sephora box, but I will definitely be buying a tube of it when the little one runs out.  Now, I enjoy getting a facial and a mini peel at my aesthetician as often as I can (preferably every month if finances allow). But using this peeling gel in between those appointments has made a world of difference.  You can actually feel the dead skin peeling off.  While some might find that off putting, I actually find it super gratifying.  Yay, Sephora Play! Box.

Clarins Booster Detox

So moving from Ohio to Los Angeles, I have definitely noticed a difference in my skin. Notably, it seems a lot more clogged than when I was living in the Midwest.  I didn’t realize that pollution can do a huge number on your skin! It can accelerate aging, cause uneven skin tone, and even cause cancer.  So I picked up a bottle of Clarins Booster Detox at Ulta.  Seriously, I could see a difference almost immediately when I put it in my moisturizer.  I only used three drops, but my skin looked plumper, more dewy, and just. . . younger.  Also, I noticed a difference in the morning when I first woke up, when my skin has lately been looking a bit dull.  Huge score.

Hot Tools Soft Grip Boar Blonde Brush

Not that I’ve tossed out my pink paddle brush that’s 100 years old.  But you know what? What the experts say is true about boar brushes – I could literally see the oil from my roots being distributed down to my ends when I used this brush.  I have no idea why I’ve waited so long to get one of these.  Probably because I had one when I was younger and my mom told me they wouldn’t get the tangles out of my waist-length hair.  In her defense, I was about six and would not let her brush my tangled, mangy hair, so I don’t fault her for that one.  But damn.

Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder

I think I’ve talked about this one before, but it warrants repeating that this powder is awesome.  This powder is specifically designed to set under eye concealer and reduce the appearance of dark circles and fine lines.  Since I suffer from both of these ailments, this one was doubly valuable for me.  Also, since when I am not working I tend to only wear concealer and not foundation, having a powder that’s specifically designed to work with concealer is perfect.

DoYogaWithMe.com and Couch-2-5K App

Again, cannot say enough about DoYogaWithMe.com.  I’ve been doing their 14-day challenge this month, alternated with running and Cardio Barre.  The Couch-2-5K app is what I’ve been using to run; I have used it several times after falling out of running shape and it always eases me back into running slowly enough for my comfort.  So I’ve got my toning, cardio, and stretching bases covered with these three.  I should have a perfect body now, right?  Haaahahahahahahaha.

Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment

I somehow ended up with two tubes of this stuff after Christmas, and let me tell you, I’m not mad about it.  If you’ve read any of my previous posts, you know as a result of anxiety, etc. I have a tendency to chew the skin on my lips.  This leads to bleeding and peeling and a host of other problems.  This product goes above and beyond a normal lip balm to really feel like it’s soothing and healing my lips.  It even preps them for the days when I wear matte lipstick, which are few and far between, but I definitely need some help with!

These are my faves for the month of March! If you want to keep up with my favorite products and reviews stay tuned and subscribe!
