What’s In My Makeup Bag – January Edition

It’s no secret – I’m a Makeup junkie. And I’ll admit, this condition has only gotten worse since I started Beauty Chaos. I have so many beauty products, sometimes I’m overwhelmed.

And I like it.

Husband might be a little tired of me taking over the guest room with all my cosmetics and skincare stuff and photography equipment, but he has the garage, so I don’t feel too guilty ;). At any rate, one of the best things to come out of having so much stuff around is that I’ve discovered so many great products — and many of them have made it into my Makeup Bag as my new staples.

So without further ado, here is what’s in my makeup bag – January edition.

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, Smashbox Primer Water, Smashbox Eye Shadow Primer and Smashbox Hydrating Under Eye Primer

I lump in these products together because they’re all primers, and all go on before I start my makeup routine. Smashbox did a Primer set earlier in the year, so these primers all came together in mini versions in the kit. I cannot believe how long they’ve lasted, considering I’ve been wearing makeup almost every day. The Photo Finish Primer is light and doesn’t clog my skin, the Eye Shadow Primer keeps my shadow put for hours and the Hydrating Under Eye Primer does exactly what it promises — hydrates and keeps concealer put. I have trouble with concealer melting off my face, so I’m not sure how I went so long without this one.

Ulta Makeup Applicator Sponge

The Beauty Blender is a cult favorite, but I couldn’t resist the Ulta Sponge Duo Kit when I saw it on sale before Christmas. I’ve been using the classic sponge and so far, I love it.

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35 in Light/Natural

The SPF factor in this BB cream is huge for me, as I have been trying to make more of an effort to be diligent about my sunscreen wear. I love the moisturizing benefits of a BB cream during the winter, especially vacationing in tropical Ohio where it was less than 10 degrees most of the time I was there.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Full Coverage Anti-Aging Waterproof Concealer

Another Play! Box favorite, I became obsessed with IT Cosmetics’ concealer from the moment I put it on my dark, dark circles. I love this because you only need the tiniest amount to cover the darkest circles. This tube will probably last me at least six months (or until whenever I’m supposed to toss it).

Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder

This is a new discovery for me, after watching a video by a fellow blogger who swears by it. I tap this powder on my under eyes after applying concealer, and the idea is that it brightens and boosts luminosity. So far, so good.

L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Blush in C5-6 – rosy outlook

I have a confession to make: I am terrible with blush. Picking a blush color for my skin tone has been really difficult for me in the last few years. Maybe because I change my hair color so often? Who knows. This one seems to be working out for me, but I’m always open to new stuff.

E.L.F. Cosmetics High Definition Powder

My go-to translucent powder, I use this over BB cream, over foundation, or just on naked skin to give my skin a slightly more polished look and cover my ever-present shine.

Urban Decay Naked Palette

I’m still working on the same Naked palette that I’ve had for months, and I love the neutrals and the shimmers that this set has. My favorite colors are Sin, Buck, and Darkhorse, but I use all of the colors regularly.

Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in kitten karma

This is a leftover from the holidays. True to my six-year-old self, I love glitter and always will. So used as much glitter as I could on my face over the holidays. Any excuse, I tell ya.

Sephora Collection Waterproof Eyeliner in Black

This is my go-to liner for tight lining. I also use this for my under eye liner if I’m doing a dramatic look.

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Black

My goal for this month is to try to master a cat eye for my eye shape. I’ve always struggled with this, as my eye shape is technically almond, but droops downward at the edge, which makes a cat eye kind of disappear on me. After hours of YouTube research, I finally figured out what I was doing wrong, so every day I’m practicing my cat eye.

Benefit Cosmetics 3D Browtones in #4

After saying goodbye to my Gimme Brow (sigh) when it was discontinued, I sought counsel from the Ulta salesgirl who said this was their most similar product.

Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipsticks in Crimson and Trap Queen

Another quest of mine over the holidays was to find a red lip that works for me. My lips have always been what I considered big, which I hated when I was younger. As I got older and full lips came into fashion, I realized I was lucky, but still had a hard time with a red lip because I felt the color overpowered my face. I’ve tried both of these colors this season with a good amount of success, so I think I finally found my shade!

Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint in goals

This is a lighter, coral-pink shade that I like for daytime wear. I’ve been trying to wear lipstick in an effort to not bite/pick at the skin on my lips, so I’ve been investing in fun lipsticks to help with this. This line is a shiny, fun addition to any smoky eye.

Mario Badescu Facial Spray With Aloe, Herb and Rosewater

Combatting dry skin has been one of my bigger battles this year. As my skin ages, it’s changing, so it’s oily half the time and dry the other half. There is no in between. It’s fabulous (where is my sarcasm font?) I’ve found this spray to be especially great when I’m traveling on planes.

So that’s it for what’s in my makeup bag – January edition! Breaking it all down, this seems like a lot of makeup to me, but I don’t wear all of it every day. Plus, I love makeup. Oh, and this doesn’t even encompass everything that I have in my arsenal, this is just what I’m carrying around in my bag. Be on the lookout for a later post where I’ll break down all the brushes that I use – that’ll be a treat!

Thanks for reading, beauties! Happy January – stay warm out there!
