Review: Living Proof Perfect hair Day (PhD) Dry Shampoo

As with many of my new favorite products, I received a bottle of Living Proof Perfect hair Day (PhD) Dry Shampoo in a Sephora Play! Box. Of course, I, like anyone else who reads magazines or watches TV or doesn’t live under a rock, had seen Jennifer Aniston’s enthusiastic ads for the brand.

And I’ve had great success with trusting celebrity endorsements.

If you know me, that probably sounds sarcastic, but I’m being 100 percent honest.  I tried a conditioner by Alterna after seeing Katie Holmes appear in the ads and was very impressed.  Also, I would probably trust any endorsement Jennifer Aniston made about a hair product since I am a product of the ‘Friends’ generation and have been obsessed with her hair since the ’90s.

Fortunately, Living Proof Dry Shampoo did not disappoint.

Living Proof has a patented technology — Healthy Hair Molecule (OFPMA) and Triple-Action Cleaning Technology — that is supposed to work a little differently than other dry shampoos.  This technology, instead of just absorbing oil, removes dirt and grease and sweat and adds texture.

As with most things, I was skeptical when I read this.  How many products out there claim to have some sort of special proprietary technology that makes their product the best product that ever producted?

Pretty much all of them.

However, I was excited to receive this in my Sephora Play! Box, as I hadn’t quite worked up to biting the bullet and spending the $22 on Living Proof Dry Shampoo.

And let me tell you, I’m not disappointed.  My hair has taken a beating over the last few months, since I’ve been heat styling almost every day.  As a consequence, I’ve been washing my hair less and less and instead relying on dry shampoo to help me between washings.

I have an oily scalp, so going without washing for even one day is painful for me.  My hair probably doesn’t look as bad as I think it does.  But being a person who washed their hair every day for most of their life, going a couple days between shampoos is difficult.

I’ve tried lots of dry shampoos over the last year or so.

Living Proof Dry Shampoo is by far the best I’ve tried.  Although most dry shampoos do their job and feel like they’ve soaked up oil and mask the “hair” smell (which I cannot describe but I’m sure if you’ve gone a couple days without washing your hair you know what I’m talking about).

But all the dry shampoos I’ve tried up to this point leave my hair feeling a little heavy.  Not terrible, but definitely not clean.

Living Proof Dry Shampoo leaves my hair feeling clean.

At least, as clean as I can hope for without my hair actually being clean.  The brand doesn’t lie; there’s something different about their dry shampoo.  My hair definitely felt cleaner that it normally does when I use dry shampoo.

I even carried the bottle around with me on my second day hair day and used it to touch up whenever I felt like my hair was getting greasy and/or losing volume.

So bottom line, Living Proof Dry Shampoo is definitely worth it.

You can find it at the Living Proof website, 4 oz for $22 or 1.8 oz for $12.  Ulta and Sephora also have the 4 oz can for $22.
