Everyone likes to be Unique and have a home that reflects his or her individual style, but when it feels like your Lighting choices are cookie cutter it can be hard to accomplish. It’s time to get creative though and check out our list of innovative and out of the box ways to get more light in your space and showcase your distinctive style.
#1 – Get some snazzy lights!
When people look into changing décor or decorating in general, they often forget about lighting. There are some really unique and amazing lights on the market though. These pieces come in all sorts of sizes and styles and are showcase pieces really. For example, don’t be afraid to use an intricately designed floral light in your bedroom or a nursery; it’s a great way to put your personal touch on the room in an unexpected way!
#2 – Think about an unusual spot to see lighting and light it up!
As lighting technology with LED lights and others has progressed the places that you can add lighting have changed. Think about putting light in places that you want to highlight like under bookshelf edges, above window valances, and under a kitchen island, just to name a few. #3 – Use lighting for art instead of function!
There are some beautiful sculptural and avant-garde lighting options that are currently available. So why not use a show stopping modern light more for its artful aesthetic than for its practical use as a light. Hang a beautiful pendant right down the middle of a wall, that’ll give people something to talk about! Or highlight some columns or down a hall with a grouping of wall sconces. Make light the focal point of your room and not an after thought.
#4 – Don’t forget about lamps!
Floor Lamps and table lamps play an important part in providing task lighting for day-to-day activities like doing homework, writing, reading, and more. this could be paired with more modern décor for an eclectic style or with some more neutral subtle items for a transitional look.
#5 –Think about doing unusual groupings of lights!
There are traditional ways that lights are used, but that doesn’t mean that that is the only way to use them. A way that you can innovatively use lighting in your home is by grouping or ungrouping lights. For example a place that usually has multiple lights is the bathroom, but maybe you could try something different by using a track light to highlight the necessary areas. On the other hand a single light is usually used above a dining table so switch things up with 2-3 fixtures down the length of a long table. This idea can be used with ceiling fixtures as well as lamps. For example two matching floor lamps on each side of a desk or sofa really have an impact.
#6 – Use lights in the wrong rooms!
What that means is that you don’t have to use those mini pendants above a kitchen island, like everybody else. Use several of them in the corners of a sun porch for something more whimsical. Also you don’t have to use that beautiful eclectic modern chandelier in the entryway. Instead use 2 of them in the bedroom above each nightstand; it will be a stunning display and give your house your own personal design touch.
