Thailand’s Most Horrifying and/or Humorous Headlines – May 2017
This month’s installment of News of the Weird positively overflows with fucked up and freaky news items. I know I said the same thing last month, but this time I mean it even more. However, while last month’s offerings really scraped the bottom of the depravity barrel, this month promises to be a tad more light-hearted. Even if there have been some pretty unbelievably grisly headlines as of late.
# 1 : Pounding the Pestle
When Coconuts Bangkok reported that a rather well known car show model from Isaan received over 7 million views on a video she posted on Facebook of herself making som tam (spicy Thai papaya salad) it seemed ludicrous enough then. But as the screen capture here shows, the number is now over 10 million. Amazing what occupies the minds of the many. Although, to be fair… Narumon Yasachai does have a great set of coconuts. But not all Thai babes want the attention. In fact, a sexy nurse (also from Isaan) recently resigned when an online pic of her in her uniform was deemed “inappropriate and too sexy”. Honey, if you’re looking for work, I got a job for ya!

# 2 : Park Yer Panties
Another funny Coconuts Bangkok news item this month concerned a forest in Isaan—it’s always in Isaan—where locals sneak out to have sex, and boast about it by leaving their underwear on tree branches. Then they check in at the location on social media. The infamous Forest of Panties, which also has its own Facebook page, is located in Thailand’s Mahasarakham province. Now to try and get one in Bangkok…

# 3 : Weirdest Waiting Room Ever…
As shared on the Thai Visa website recently, Women who received a free Pap smear test at a hospital in Thailand’s Kamphaeng Phet province last week didn’t need to feel embarrassed because they could hide behind green Shrek masks distributed by the hospital staff. This odd, but successful initiative—called “The Mask Pap Smear”—aims to decrease the awkwardness between the doctors and patients who are shy about getting a gynecological exam (mainly rural women aged 30-70). In fact, it was so successful, other rural areas soon began implementing the same program.

# 4 : Number One Consumers of VR Porn
A study released by PornHub (don’t ask me why I know this) listed a lot of stats and figures regarding it’s Virtual Reality porn services. It’s all very intriguing, and very USA-centric, until a particular graph pops up showing that Thailand has the dubious honour of being the world leader when it comes to watching VR porn. This proud nation once again stands tall…

# 5 : Rich Man’s Rooster
As reported in the Bangkok Post, up in Chiang Mai province a Fighting Cock sold for B1 million (almost US$30,000). Cock fighting is a majorly huge gambling-related sport here in Thailand, and so this 16-month-old fighting cock, with a record of three straight victories, is very valuable indeed. BTW this record-setting rooster was raised on a “cock farm” (that term always makes me laugh).

# 6 : Giving Your Boss a Raise
Another Bangkok Post story this month told how one government agency in Thailand has started a program to make sure that state employees are not using the services of prostitutes as gifts for their bosses. It seems the practice of liang doo poo sua is common among government employees, in that junior employees often pay for the services of prostitutes for their seniors to say thank you or to celebrate a milestone or victory. Such behaviour has no place in today’s workforce, but… it beats the hell out of cake in the staff lounge if you ask me!

# 7 : Cop-Out Caught on Camera
Now here’s a great one, as seen on the AsiaJack website: Three policemen in Roi Et province are under disciplinary investigation after a man caught on CCTV unlocked a jail cell Door, allowing two drug suspects to escape. The three policemen were on duty early on Saturday when the 2 criminals, arrested for drugs, escaped from the cell. Footage shows two women speaking to the suspects through the cell door at 4.50am on Saturday. A man, believed to be the police sergeant, then unlocks the door and turns his back as one of the women pushes the door open. The suspects walk out of the cell, give the women an extended hug, and then simply walk away. Moments later, another man peers into the empty cell and padlocks the door. Both escapees were apprehended several days later, but no word on what will happen to the felonious fuzz. Probably nothing, as per usual.

# 8 : A Night of Naked Sushi
A female blogger recently posted this little story about eating sushi off a naked woman’s body, which sounds much more erotically charged than it turns out to be. But it’s amusing, and a fitting end to all the May madness. Good night y’all (and watch where you’re putting those damn chopsticks!).
