Friday Night Inspiration – The Power of Truth

Ok, it’s Friday night and time for a little inspiration.

In my last post, I talked about the “Truth” and how it’s basically the secret weapon of self improvement.

The reason I say that is because when you *really* get down and are really honest about your problems, you tend to find solutions.

I’m not going to blow sunshine up your behind and tell you that there is *always* a solution, but ninety nine point nine percent of the time, when you really seek out the truth about a problem, you can find a solution.

And the one thing that makes problems completely unfixable?

Lying… which includes:

Denial,

Making excuses,

Even little “fibs” that you tell yourself.

All these things can make fixing your problems literally impossible.

And here’s the other (bigger) problem.

Telling the truth HURTS.

Especially when you’re talking about something that is sensitive, something that you would much rather have swept under the rug.

On the other hand, denial, making excuses and fibbing, well those FEEL GOOD.

At least in the short term.

Till reality bumps up against your little un-truth again. And again.

And here’s the deal – it’s not really your fault.

We live in a culture that embraces “fibbing” at the very least. We are encouraged to gloss over our flaws and mistakes – often in the name of “self-esteem”.

And so, to feel good about ourselves, we cut off our relationship with the Truth and with the opportunity for growth and change.

It’s actually nuts.

And it doesn’t have to be that way.

You can learn to love the truth for it’s own sake. And bear the discomfort that comes with it.

Heck, you can try it this weekend. Just go out, and try being a bit more truthful than usual. Say a few things that you would otherwise be a bit uncomfortable saying.

See if it makes you feel better. See if it strengthens you.

And if you want an outside perspective to help you with that, in my Coaching programs I work hard to dig at the truth with my clients.
