Real Estate developer Donald Trump continued his march toward being crowned the presumptive Republican nominee for president with decisive victories in five primaries yesterday. He won over fifty percent of the GOP votes in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut, Delaware and Rhode Island.

Governor John Kasich (R-OH) and Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) are in a fierce battle to convince voters that they are still relevant, despite having no chance to win on the first ballot at this summer’s Republican party convention in Cleveland.


The Democratic frontrunner, Secretary Hillary Clinton, was victorious in four of the five Democratic primaries in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and Connecticut. The New England firebrand Independent turned Democrat, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), won the state of Rhode Island.

Sanders, Kasich, and Cruz have vowed to continue their campaigns through June 7, 2016, when California, New Jersey, and South Dakota hold their last in the nation primaries.

Donald Trump has managed to offend nearly everyone since he announced his campaign for the 2016 Republican nomination for president, and the breadth of his ignorance and insensitivity is stunning.

The majority of undocumented immigrants cross the border into the United States at an international airport and overstay their entry visa, yet Trump and other Republicans want to spend taxpayer funds erecting a huge wall on our southern border.

The same facts and reports are freely available to anyone with an interest in finding the truth. Is Trump lazy and uninterested in facts?

Any examination of Trump’s statements reveals that he loves to tell his audiences what he thinks they want to hear. Mainstream media organizations are reluctant to call Trump a pathological or compulsive liar because he allegedly believes that what he says is true.

A pathological liar is a sociopath typically defined as someone who lies incessantly to get their way and does so with little concern for others. A sociopath is often goal-oriented (i.e., lying is focused—it is done to get one’s way). Sociopaths have little regard or respect for the rights and feelings of others. Sociopaths are often charming and charismatic, but they use their talented social skills in manipulative and self-centered ways. 

A compulsive liar is defined as someone who lies out of habit. Lying is their normal and reflexive way of responding to questions. Compulsive liars bend the truth about everything, large and small. For a compulsive liar, telling the truth is very awkward and uncomfortable while lying feels right.    

I’m not an expert, but one could make the case that Trump’s public profile fits both definitions. Either way, I have to conclude that he has a serious problem that should disqualify him from running for president. The problem is that his supporters are as disinterested in facts and the truth as he is.

Trump’s statements on the stump received PolitiFact’s 2015 Lie of the Year award. I think he’s qualified to be named Liar of the Century.

Democrats and Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders will make mincemeat of Donald Trump, and I can’t wait for that.

TV Talk: Full Frontal with Samantha Bee

As a long-time fan and viewer of Jon Stewart and Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, I was disappointed when he announced that he was leaving. I was doubly disappointed when John Oliver or Samantha Bee weren’t picked as his replacement.

I haven’t missed an episode of John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight on HBO, and his recaps of the week shine a bright light on topics that deserve attention.

I was excited when TBS announced that Samantha Bee was getting her own show. Full Frontal with Samantha Bee premiered on February 8, 2016, and I recommend that you check out her new program on TBS.

“Don’t watch my new show just because I’m a woman,” Bee jokes in the promo. “Watch because of my nuanced perspective on world events, my repartee with newsmakers across the ideological spectrum, and of course, these,” she says, lifting her skirt to reveal some comically large prosthetic testicles. It seems ridiculous that in 2015 a gag about needing a Y chromosome to host a late-night talk show would be so cutting, but that’s how slow change has been in coming to this particular school of television.

Samantha Bee and her new political satire show are smart and entertaining. In fact, it’s like a breath of fresh air. She’s a fearlessly funny female with a strong point of view. I love her show because no subject or individual is immune to her satire or criticism, and I laugh out loud regularly while watching Full Frontal.
