Instagram: Should A Transgender Girl Use The Men's Room

The transgender community have been caught in the crossfire of the fight for marriage equality and that's indecent, unjust and unfair to them.

Should a transgender girl be forced to use the men's room?

The answer is simple. NO WAY should any trans boy or girl or Corey Maison be forced to use any bathroom. A trans person should go to the bathroom that conforms with their gender identity whether young or old. That's humane and compassionate and the right thing to do.

We've got to stop this insanity. Unprovoked attacks on the transgender community through punitive legislation is both reprehensible and unconstitutional. These bills and others like it have one goal, to promote and protect homophobia and transphobia and hateful discrimination. Lawmakers are only interested in maintaining the status quo to advance the narrow interests of white 'Christian' heterosexual men. Bigotry is antithetical to our society, our Constitution, our morality and our values. And yet that's exactly what these measures represent.

Photographer Meg Bitton took the photo of Corey Maison and posted it on Instagram with Corey's mother's assent. Meg asked, "if this was YOUR daughter, would you be comfortable sending her into a men’s bathroom?" She did so to illustrate that there are countless trans kids and adults across the country who would jeopordize their lives and personal safety if they're compelled to comply with these new restroom restrictions. Trans people are routinely subjected to threats of violence and physical assaults, and this manufactured problem and the ensuing hysteria only serves to exacerbate these issues.

Meg writes (emphasis my own):
If this was YOUR daughter, would you be comfortable sending her into a men’s bathroom? Neither would I. Be fair. Be kind. Be empathetic. Treat others how you would like to be treated.
Second Post: I guess I need to edit this post. Corey IS TRANSGENDER.
Third Post: for those STILL not able to understand: If this was YOUR daughter, would you be comfortable sending her into a men’s bathroom? Neither would I. Corey Maison is transgender. She was born with male anatomy but identifies as a female. Under the new laws, SHE would be forced to use the men’s room. Therefore, I would not be comfortable sending HER into the men’s room if she was my daughter. Be fair. Be kind. Be empathetic. Treat others how you would like to be treated.
Fourth Post: Corey helped with her makeup AND I edited the image FOR her, the way SHE would like it. Not for me and certainly not for any of you.
Fifth Post: It is impossible to moderate this post, try as we may. I want to delete it as badly as I don’t want to delete it. I decided to let Corey’s mother make that call and she asked for it to stay to raise awareness so it will. PLEASE BE ASSURED that I do not in any way support the trolling insanity I am seeing here and I VERY MUCH appreciate all the positivity around Corey as does she AND her family. Stunning model.
The lesbian, gay and bisexual members of the LGBT community need to coalesce and stand up for our transgender neighbors and friends. They are marriage equality scapegoats and that's indecent and unfair. They've been targeted for punishment by hate groups because the Supreme Court ruled in favor of gay marriage, and that ruling had no effect on them at all. They could marry whoever they wished before the ruling and after the ruling.

We've won many battles in culture wars of the past, and we have to resupply and unite to slay the evil dragons now and win the wars in the future.
