The Republican party has long been obsessed with sex. Whether it’s Rick Santorum comparing gay sex to bestiality, or Todd Aiken claiming that “legitimate rape” doesn’t lead to pregnancies, or Rep. Steve Pearce (R-NM) imploring that a “wife is to voluntarily submit” to a husband, these GOP grand poobahs continue to alienate the electorate.

The latest Republican asshole to open his mouth and insert his foot is the former governor of Arkansas, and Baptist preacher, the horny Mike Huckabee. Huckabee said:
“I think it’s time Republicans no longer accept listening to the Democrats talk about a 'war on Women.' The fact is the Republicans don’t have a war on women, they have a war for women, to empower them to be something other than victims of their gender.”
"If the Democrats want to insult the women of America by making them believe that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing for them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of the government, then so be it."
Huckabee’s assertion that women take Birth Control pills because they can’t control their libido is outrageous and insane. It’s a grossly inaccurate mischaracterization of women and Birth control, and it illustrates why old white men need to stay out of any debate surrounding women’s reproductive health.
When Huckabee was asked if he wanted to take back his asinine comments, he said no unequivocally. [emphasis mine]
"God gave us sexual drive. It’s not something dirty. It isn’t vulgar. It’s a wonderful gift from God in the context of a relationship between a man and a woman who have committed to each other as life partners. That’s a good thing. There’s nothing unholy or untoward about that.”
I think that Huckabee’s belief that “there’s nothing unholy or untoward about” having a sex drive, as long as the two individuals are a straight married couple, is homophobic, sexist, idiotic, unrealistic, and misogynistic. And there’s nothing holy about that.
