Keep it Open

Isn't openness the key to success in life? It seems like it. In order to determine whether or not a relationship is going to work you need to openly Communicate with the other party. In order to ensure that you pick the right major or career, you need to have an Open Mind in all fields of study. In order to succeed in college you need to have an open mind because there's no getting around encountering different ideas, philosophies, and people, no matter how much you try to avoid them. I just had a conversation with my roommate about what we like and dislike about each other. I think I hurt her feelings more than she did mine. The thing is, most of what I said (and I didn't say it all) is stuff that has been bothering me for the last year and a half that we've been roommates. She really upset me last night but I waited until today to speak so that I wouldn't say something out of anger that I would later regret. I'm not sure if she'll get anything out of the conversation accept for the possibly bruised ego for tonight but I definitely got something out of it. If something bothers you, communicate. The worst that can happen is you and the other person won't be friends anymore. I know that that's a major thing, or at least can be, but if you can't communicate well, then your friendship may not be as strong as you think and you may not need that person around. You just can't be closed to anything, not even pain. You build resilience, patience, courage, and a few other helpful character traits. Some of us develop them a lot earlier and a lot quicker than others. Now, it's off to find some helpful resources for my Spanish class.
