Top 10 Hacks to Improve Browsing on the Chrome Browser


A Normal person spends 16 hours online per month. The Business professionals use the Internet for their official work like Email, Marketing, Grow their network, Sell their product, Financial work, Research etc. While the unprofessional users of internet use it for Entertainment, Collecting Information, Online shopping, Social media, Banking, Online gaming, Emails and much more. A good Browser is a must for effective use of Internet. With Global online population of 2,095,006,005 if you’ll conduct a survey regarding which is the best browser so far you have been used?

The result is likely that most people will vote for Chrome. Why? There are numerous browsers present but Chrome’s fast browsing speed, easy access to its user and loaded with multiple features makes it most used browser among Internet users.

Despite the fact that it is the fastest browser among its competitor like Windows Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Opera etc. You may have faced sometimes slow speed of chrome browser. If you want to improve your browsing experience, you can apply multiple hacks into chrome browser to speed it up faster. There are multiple hacks you can apply to your browser to make it faster.
  • Remove Unused Extensions: 
The Chrome is much popular among business professionals due to its extensive features of extensions, which you can use to make the browsing experience more productive. You can see the lists of extensions in your browser by typing chrome://extensions/ in the URL space of your browser Or by clicking on chrome option menu on top right-> settings-> extensions

There you can find the list of all extensions you have downloaded. These extensions slow up your browsing speed by continuously sending data to the server. If you are not using any of these extensions or features such as pop-up blocker which is inbuilt in chrome then please uncheck them and delete it by clicking on trash button.

  • Updated Browser: 

With each new version of the browser there comes a variety of new features related to speed, privacy, user experience etc. The developer team tries hard to make it faster than the previous version to improve quality. If you are using an older version of the browser then surely the browsing speed is much slower than the newer version. The latest version of Google Chrome is 52.0.2743.116

To Update Google Chrome, Go to top right corner

Click on Chrome Menu-> Update Google Chrome (If you don’t find this then you’re on latest version) -> Relaunch

Or you can type chrome://help/ in the URL space to check your browser version and update(if required).

  • Clear Browsing Data:

 All Browsers keep saving all your data on its memory to help you provide better browsing experience. Primarily there are three types of memory which a browser saves i.e.:-

Cache: It is related with content and images that you visit.

Cookies: It keeps track of your personal information such as your login id and password on different accounts.

History: It keeps the record of URLs of the pages that you have visited in the past.
Also, there are other data that is being stored in your browser memory. Regularly deleting them improves the speed of your browser considerably.

You can delete the browsing data by typing chrome://settings/clearBrowserData on URL space of your browser or by shortcut key Ctrl+H.

Also, you can use Incognito mode of your browser by Shortcut key Ctrl+Shift+N. This is a good way to use the Internet especially in unsafe Zone like- Internet Café because Incognito mode automatically clears your browsing data.

  • Keyboard Shortcuts: 

The Keyboard shortcut key saves a lot of your time and makes your browsing experience livelier. Although there are numerous shortcut keys in chrome, using a few of them which you frequently use could save a lot of your precious time. 

 


  • Remove Unnecessary Plug-in: 

Unlike the extensions in Chrome, there are also a lot of plugins that a user downloads and uses. These also occupy a lot of memory in chrome’s directory and reduce the browsing speed. If you don’t use these plug-in then it is advised that you should permanently delete it. 



You can see the list of the plug-in by typing chrome://plugins/ in the URL space.

  • Fast Open/Close Tabs: 

Every version of chrome contains flags. These are experimental and secret features developed by Chrome’s Developer team which might work for all users.



This option improves the browsing speed as the response time taken by the user to open or close a tab is improved. You can enable this feature on your browser by adding chrome://flags/ once there, look for - #enable-fast-unload in the URL space.

You’ll have to first enable it and then relaunch the browser to make it effective.

  • Canvas Features: 

These features allow Chrome browser to use canvases for boosting the load time and improve the result.


To make it work you have to enter chrome://flags/ and then find out - #enable-experimental-canvas-features in the URL space of browser. Then you’ll have to enable it and relaunch the browser to make it work.

  • Prefetch Resources: 

The prefetch feature of browser automatically loads the sites, which you are most likely to visit by using prediction service. It also completes the searches and URL you type on the URL space. This improves the loading time considerably and thus the browsing speed improves. 

You can enable these features by clicking on chrome menu on the top right corner ->settings ->advanced settings->privacy menu.


Some of the users might find these features already enabled on their browser.

  • Raster Threads: 

All of the websites uses images to improve the appearance and user experience. The use of image also causes lots of excessive data transfer between the servers, that’s why the sites filled with lots of images takes the time to load. Raster graphics uses pixels to generate an image. Almost all the websites use raster threads and raster images for fast transfer of data. It is a great way to boost up the speed of surfing as everyone likes to visit websites full of images.


In URL space of browser you can simply put chrome://flags/ and then look for these details - #num-raster-threads. Then in the drop down list, you’ll have to select 4 from the options. Thereafter you’ll have to relaunch the browser to make it work.

  • Maximum Interest Area tiles & Bookmark: 

The Tiles and Bookmark are a great way to navigate you fast based on your interest of websites. Chrome browser show you boxes of sites as per your pastime or surfing history. Also, you can keep the websites you visit frequently as Bookmark by shortcut key Ctrl+D , next time a new tab is opened ,you will find the bookmark tab listed there or you can open that by Ctrl+Shift+B.

You can also effectively use the tiles by increasing them to a maximum by typing chrome://flags/ and look for the data - #max-tiles-for-interest-area in URL space and in the drop-down list select an option as 512.

Apart from these hacks, there are several hacks related to flag on the chrome that is experimental. You can use these flags but all of them may not work with your browser. If you face problem working with these flags then don’t worry. You can disable them anytime by repeating the same procedure.
