Things are going well with the Ecommerce in Germany. Last year, this industry recorded double-digit revenue growth. The online retail at our eastern neighbors increased by 10.9 percent and was worth more than 58 billion euros at the end of the year.

It is now the first time in Germany that one eighth of every euro spent in the retail sector comes from the ecommerce. It was mainly independent online and multichannel retailers that are doing well, they grew faster both in an absolute sense and in percentage terms than retailers selling via online market places.

Online marketplaces accounted for 27.9 billion euros
Online marketplaces remain the most important place in Germany to make online purchases, according to Ecommerce Association Bevh. This group of retailers grew by 4.4 percent last year to a total turnover of 27.9 billion euros. More growth was achieved with online pure players (12.6 percent growth to 8.56 billion euros) and multichannel retailers (21 percent growth to 20.1 billion euros).

According to Gero Furchheim, president of Bevh, there are good opportunities for independently operating webshops. “With their online qualities, these retailers can not only survive next to the market places, but also in cooperation with them, so that they can grow even further”, he thinks.

Germany interesting for Dutch webshops
