Periscope Tips And Tricks To Effectively Use It

Everything you need to know about Periscope, the baby company of Twitter.

Who doesn’t do live streaming or broadcasting these days? Apps like Snapchat and features on Instagram allow you to publish videos in real-time, it’s what every confident and savvy social media user does these days. They are in such a high demand that it’s easy to see why Periscope is doing so well – an app just for live streaming? YES, please.

It’s now been on the market for a few years, but it’s bigger than ever. During London Fashion Week nearly every second person was either on Snapchat, Instagram or Periscope. Designers are even collaborating with the app to showcase special collections or events. I mean, what is there not to love about the app?

A year after it was published, Periscope revealed a few very interesting statistics: Firstly, users created 200 million streams. Secondly, they watched 110 years of videos every day. If that isn’t impressive, I don’t know what is.

How to use it

The app officially launched in February 2015, however, Twitter already bought it before that. It’s a free app and it allows users to live stream using their smartphone and to interact with live videos via liking or commenting.

Video can be made public or private and you can also share them via Twitter. Additionally, if you want your followers to be able to view it once it’s over just change the settings and enable replay.

Periscope Tips

1. Have a finished profile
Number 1 for every platform: Have a full Profile which includes a photo, a catchy bio and a link where possible.

Having a good profile is the most important part of gaining followers if it’s empty or incomplete people won’t be interested and will stay away. Like Instagram, it’s not a platform that allows links so you only have the bio to include your blog or website URL.

Think about what you want to share during the live streams and adjust your Periscope bio accordingly to that. You talk about fashion or cars or marketing or whatever but remember to include it so users immediately know what your profile is about.

2. Watch Broadcasts
Once your profile is set up, we recommend watching a few live streams to see how it’s all working and what to expect.

If of course, you are super confident then go ahead and immediately publish your first broadcast. However, watching a few before and actually engaging with people can make others more aware of your profile and may gain you a few followers.

3. Catchy Titles and Emojis
People love Emojis, so use them in your caption to grab people’s attention!

4. Interact
Once you are at the stage of actually doing a live stream it’s important to add that you will be able to see who has joined your broadcast. So why not be an absolute babe and welcome a few? Ask how they are, where they are or whatever. But being friendly and interacting with them will make you more authentic and approachable, people will like you for it and return.

5. Be prepared
Lastly, always be prepared. Don’t start a broadcast and realise you are missing a few details or props that are relevant. If it helps, write it all down before and tick it all off once you have it. Being organised and prepared is important.
