Forbes Magazine Top College Campaign is in its Second Year – Who Will Be the Winner

For the second year in a row, Forbes Magazine is sponsoring its “My Top College Campaign. This campaign is a chance for students from colleges and universities all over the United States to state how their schools have uniquely helped them grow personally and professionally. So far this campaign, which is due to end on July 29, promises to exceed the number of posts through Twitter and Instagram that were received last year. Altogether in 2014 there were 35,000 tweets and 8000 posts through Instagram. This year, that mark has already been hit, and there are still a couple of weeks to go. The school that wins with the most entries will be named to the top of the list of Forbes listing of the top 30 schools in the country.

Get In On the Action

If you want to support your school, you can do so by sending a short tweet to https://twitter.com/ForbesEDU, stating how you school has benefitted you in a big way. So far, the big contenders are:

  1. Sweet Briar College, a 114-yr. old school that almost closed this year. So far it leads with 600 submissions
  2. San Diego State University is running a close second, followed by California State University at Fullerton.

The country has been divided into regions – Southeast, Mountain, New England, Southwest r, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, etc., and each region has a leading school.

Because Forbes really wants students to comment on how they have grown, rather than other elements of their college experience, it has announced that it will consider both quantity and quality of posts this year, so any student who is considering posting – take heed!

Student Posts

Obviously, as the deadline approaches, posts should become more numerous and, hopefully, more on point to the topic. Here are a few recent posts:

  1. Sarah from Ouachita College loves her school because it is surrounded by the beautiful Arkansas outdoors. She included a picture with that tweet.
  2. Nate at High Pont University stated, “Every student receives an extraordinary education in an inspiring environment.”
  3. William is happy with his school, Northwestern University, because, “it almost beat Ohio State.”
  4. Natalie Sportelli states, “Colgate, because I met some of the best people in the world.”

So far, many of the posts are not specifically related to Forbes’s prompt, but we will see what happens by the end of the month.

College and University Rankings

Obviously, this competition from Forbes is not really related to the ranking of colleges and universities around the world. The magazine does, however, publish an annual listing of its picks for the top 30 colleges and universities in the U.S.

Looking Globally

There are also a number of independent organizations that rank universities all over the world. Within the top 20 rankings, schools in the U.S. and UK are about equally represented within these top ranks, demonstrating that K and U.S. colleges and universities continue to lead the world in educational excellence.
