“My journey from Blue City – Jodhpur to Silicon Valley – Bengaluru”

October 2 has a special significance for me in my life apart from the fact that our two great leaders were born on this day. The day has its own added importance through Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. We relocated from Jodhpur to Bengaluru on this day as my husband got transferred.  We had travelled by train due to excess luggage. It was my first longest Journey where we had to break the journey by taking two more trains. We started on 1st October at 6:00 am and our first halt was in  Mumbai.

Our next scheduled departure from Mumbai was at 10:00 pm so we decided to explore the city. We spent the whole day moving around. For the first time in life, my daughter and I got an opportunity to enjoy the sea beach at Juhu. It was amazing to feel the waves caressing our feet. We were awestruck by the high waves rising in the sea followed by visits to Chowpatty, chota Kashmir – a popular shooting location for movies. We had a lot of fun throughout the day. Also, we tasted the local delicacies like vada pav, pav bhaji etc.

As per the schedule, we boarded the train at 10:00 pm. My 5 years old daughter used to ask repeatedly “When shall we reach Bangalore?”

We finally reached our destination at 11:00 pm, where we were given a warm welcome by Air Force officers who got to work with my husband in Bangalore in spite of heavy rain. We quickly loaded our luggage in the Airforce vehicle and left for Yelahanka AirForce Station.

After posting, it’s like the celebration which continues for about four to five days. We got a chance to meet and understand each other’s family. Children enjoyed making new friends as they acclimatise at new places. We found officers and soldiers across all the states of India. People help each other like a family when we are in trouble, so they never miss their family.

I got an opportunity to teach Hindi. Time flew and now it has been many years in this profession where I worked at many schools and colleges. I also learnt to speak the local language – Kannada, as I was residing in Bangalore.

Now, when I observe my workplace – I get to see the mini India here. As it is a confluence of people from various states and cultures like Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Assam, Mizoram, Nepal, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, etc.

People are like flowers, blooming in the garden city who come looking for their livelihood and get settled here.
