GCSE English Language - Winter Olympics (Non-Fiction Writing)

GCSE - Formal Letter Writing

A GCSE English language non-fiction writing resource that allows learners to practice formal letters and, in particular, job applications. For the activity, learners are to apply for the position of volunteer at the Winter Olympics. Learners could get into groups to discuss how they could volunteer at the event. As part of the session, I asked the group to think about selective vocabulary for applications which encouraged them to think about their word choices and choose more sophisticated examples for their writing. Additionally, I set individual targets for the students to think about how they can vary punctuation and sentence types when they write.
