Is Your Child's School Bus Safe? How To Make Sure-

7 THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR BEFORE USING School BUS FOR YOUR KID
As a parent, choosing the right school for your child is a crucial decision. When that is taken care of, identifying a
safe mode of transportation to school would be an important agenda. School buses can be the safest option for kids
to go to school, especially if both parents are working and are looking for timely pickups to school. What could
possibly go wrong? In India, accidents and safety issues plague school bus transit. If that’s not enough to concern
parents; issues like high bus fees and inconvenient routes also can be a headache. There’s no reason to worry though
; here are some of the things parents can ensure before putting their kid in a school bus:

1.Make sure it’s not overcrowded- Do not put your child in a bus that overflows with other children. It’s absolutely unsafe and is a prevalent cause for accidents. So, it’s only prudent to make sure that the
school bus has enough space for your child to sit comfortably and keep his/her bag.

   2.   Check the bus rotes and driver details - School buses can't reach every area of the city to drop children at their doorstep. Make sure you check the nearest stop to board the bus and instruct your child to reach there. It is good to note the details of the bus driver and confirm it with the school's transportation office.

    3. Initiate your kid- For a child that has not travelled by a school bus before, it can be worrisome. So,
it is important to teach your child about sticking to bus timings, and knowing how and where to get on
the bus. This will also help the child to not get lost on the way from the bus stop to home.

    4. Safety regulations are a must- Don’t even think about putting your child in a school bus that doesn’t
have emergency exits. If the school bus doesn’t follow safety regulations like speed-control device,
writing phone number of the school on its rear etc., it’s not the bus for your kid.

      5. GPS tracking system would help- A lot of urban schools have now installed GPS and CCTV cameras in
their school buses. So, see to it that the school bus has this installed. It lets you track your kid and know where and when he/she boards the bus.

          6. Make sure there’s a guardian-A designated teacher must be there in the bus to mind the kids. It is
important to ensure that someone takes care of your kid in your absence. This will also ensure discipline in
            the bus.

            7. Authorized school bus- Before letting the kids ride a school bus, parents need to make sure that the
transportation should be authorised by the school and the safety of the kids should be promised.

When it comes to child’s security, there shouldn’t be even a slightest of doubt or query. If you feel insecure about
anything, communicate it with the school’s transportation office. What other safety regulations would you like to
                see in school transports?
