The educator, the parent and the policymaker are the three magical ingredients that can help the child cook the perfect recipe of Success. Leaving even one of them out can leave you with a bad taste.
100 gms of good teaching practicesA teacher should be a role model to the student. The qualities imparted to the students should be such that they are embedded in the child’s value system for life. Time keeps changing and for a teacher to be effective in his/her discourse, he/she also needs to keep updating with the latest trends and keep on developing new techniques to pique the students mind and connect to them. An ideal teacher must come prepared with the lesson plan and also be prepared with the TLM (Teaching, Learning Material in the form of charts, graphs and maps) as it keeps the audience hooked and succeeds in holding their interest, if not that then the vocal discourse must be made creative to make the class interesting. Gone are the days when a long lecture did the job, nowadays it is considered monotonous and with so many distractions at hand, the child soon loses interest.
A pinch of responsible educational reforms
The first two ingredients won’t be able to concoct the magic without the support of the third. Although the government has striven to improve the state of education through its scheme of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and most recently the RTE act however the results have been far from expected. However its one small step at a time and some of the mandates mentioned in the act are really constructive and would help better the state of education immensely if implemented properly.

Every child in a class is different and must be treated equally yet uniquely. We have fingers of different length in the same hand and when folded they come out to be of equal length. Likewise, each child is differently equal. A teacher must not look at his/her role as a job but as a Responsibility or a duty towards the society, because it upon them that rests the haloed task of developing future leaders.

In my experience of 3 decades, I have realized that it is as much the guardian’s responsibility for the character building of a child as is the teacher’s. Every new learning needs a follow-up and for that parents should imbibe a culture at home which helps their child be in tune with the student’s learning each day. The guardian’s should also take up the pro-activeness to interact with the teachers periodically to know the weak areas of their child and explore ways to rectify them in a constructive manner. A feeling of collective responsibility and togetherness should prevail between the guardians and teachers and that will make the work so much easier.

Arrangement of playgrounds, separate lavatories for girls and boys and 1 teacher per 40 students per class are some noteworthy reforms.
Although the Mid Day Meal scheme has increased the average attendance in schools, it is the duty of the teacher to engage these kids with food for thought, not with the allure of getting lunch.
A perfect balance of all three can provide your child with all the required nutrients to master success, otherwise he will only be left with permanent distaste. And that my friend is a recipe for success.
