Many SAT testing dates were cancelled beginning in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic by Collegeboard, so its no surprise that this world health crisis has caused drastic changes to the college Admissions system of this country. While private schools still rely on the SAT and ACT for their admissions, some public school systems have the ability to opt out altogether in favor of their own processes, something the UC system is currently actively trying to do. The UC system announced that it will suspend the SAT/ACT admissions requirement until 2024 in order to develop its own test.

This move is undoubtedly sudden, and not kind to parents and students already struggling with changing admissions. The best response for this change is to adapt, and seek to strengthen other methods a Student has of getting in. While standardized testing has been an active part of admissions for so long, letters of recommendation, application essays, and GPA standing are now even more important. Students should focus on raising their grades and perfecting their essays for admissions.

Despite the change, the SAT and ACT are still an important admissions standard at most colleges, and taking these tests is sure to get you a leg up among other students applying to those schools. We recommend that standardized testing stays a priority for that reason, and that you remain proactive when it comes to taking these tests.
