“Its not Stress that kills us, it is our reaction to it.”
                                                                                          – Hans Selye

“There are thousands of causes for stress, and one antidote to stress is self-expression. That’s what happens to me every day. My thoughts get off my chest, down my sleeves and onto my pad.”
                                                                               – Garson Kanin

Don’t you think that you have lots of capacities, inherent abilities, qualities which you can use but due to stress, all these attributes and capabilities you possess go in vain? Don’t you wish to come out as a confident, positive, rational and impressive personality whom everybody admires rather than evading your company? But generally we cannot become what we wish to become because we don’t realize our inherent potentialities and bring out them in the execution of our tasks. It happens because we doubt ourselves and we look ourselves from other people’s point of view and rely more upon others rather than ourselves. It causes stress and stress is the root cause and main hurdle on our path leading to success and feeling good about ourselves.  If you have a stressful day, you wish to go such a place where nobody is to disturb you like going out on short excursions, spending time in the lap of nature or so. That’s one version of evading stressful life and day but that is not a permanent solution to the problem because we are supposed to face it but better would be to face the situation calmly and start dealing things as if these are not permanent.  Don’t take the unfavourable situations so much seriously that they may kill your creativity and don’t hook yourself onto something for a longer period of time that you go deep into the psychic trauma and depression to destroy your life which is a gift of Almighty.

Let us try to find out a solution as to how to deal with stress in our day to day life.  It so happened that one day a psychologist, while teaching the techniques of stress management, was walking around the hall. On a table,  a Glass of water was kept. As usual, as we expect, everybody thought that the psychologist would tell about positive attitude by glass analogy “half empty or half full” question.  Instead of that, she, with a positive smile on her face asked: “How heavy is this glass of water?” Some people sitting there guessed the weight of the glass of water.  She replied, “The absolute weight of the glass doesn’t matter at all rather it depends how long you hold that glass of water. If you hold it for a minute, it won’t be a problem. But if you hold it for an hour, you will have an ache in your arm? If you hold it for a day, your arm feels numb and will almost be paralysed.  In each case, the absolute weight of the glass does not change, but the longer you hold, the heavier it becomes.” So, it is better to shed away the glass or throw it to the dustbin.

The moral of the story is that the stresses and worries in our life are like that glass of water. If we think about them for a while, nothing happens, but when we think about them a bit longer, they begin to hurt and cause problems. And if we think about them all day long, we will feel paralyzed — incapable of doing and achieving what we wish to do in our life. Hence, it is essential and required to let go of stresses. It can be of any sort of stress. As early as possible we should shed away and put all our burdens down to be cheerful and achieve optimal with our inherent abilities which are overshadowed by this stress loaded on us. Don’t carry them throughout your evening and into your night. Put the glass down or throw it out of the open window.

I am sure you will find the real you at that moment. A free and relaxed heart and mind to have a long flight with your wings of imagination, innovation and creation and you will meet the real you.  “Oh the real you are here!”
