Rajnath Singh Says Assam Flood Situation Grim, Announces Rs 4 Lakh Compensation For Victims

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday termed the flood situation in Assam as grim and assured that the Central Government will provide all help to the state for rescue, relief and rehabilitation.

At least 26 persons are dead and over 18 lakh have been affected due to floods.

“Over 26 districts have been affected due to flood situation in Assam. NDRF team is working for rescue and relief work.” Rajnath Singh said, adding that the state government has announced Rs 4 lakh compensation to the victims.

Earlier in the day, Rajnath Singh conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas in Assam.

Rajnath, accompanied by Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju and Minister for DoNER Jitendra Singh, took the stock of the situation in the districts of Nagaon and Morigaon besides the Kaziranga national park.

The affected districts are Lakhimpur, Golaghat, Jorhat, Bongaigaon, Dhemaji, Barpeta, Goalpara, Dhubri, Darrang, Morigaon, Sonitpur, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Kokrajhar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Biswanath, Kamrup Metropolitan, Chirang, Nagaon, Kamrup and South Kamrup.
