A station house officer has been accused of sexually assaulting a 25-year-old girl in Kanachak area of Jammu. The victim has also alleged the cop of inserting beer bottle and chilli powder in her private parts, while she was in custody.

The victim had been in custody over allegations of theft by a couple for whom she was working as a domestic help. There are also allegations that her husband was arrested when he came to visit her while she was in custody.

The SHO who has been accused in the case, however, has denied the allegations and claimed that the Woman is a “habitual offender”. He also alleged that she had been earlier arrested in Punjab in connection with cases related to theft and narcotics.

According to report, the victim’s lawyer Vijay Atri, has claimed that 11 injury marks have been found on her body during her medical examination. The lawyer also asserted that the way the woman has been attacked is similar to the December 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape case that took place in Delhi.

However, the woman has been granted bail and admitted to a hospital in Gandhi Nagar in Jammu, her husband is claiming that she is not getting the best treatment. A special investigation team has been appointed to probe the allegations in the case.

The Prime Minister’s Office has stepped into the controversy with Minister of State PMO Dr Jitendra Singh asking the Jammu and Kashmir government to look into the issue.
