Triple Talaq is an insensitive obsolete practice that is still in use in many urban as well as rural areas. Among all the court hearing and debates there is a new case that emerges everyday. Each one more shocking than the other.

In the recent case a 35 year old victim has been given triple talaq in three of her past marriages, in last 12 years. Now, she is afraid her fourth husband will leave her for the fourth time in the similar manner.

Tara Khan is an illiterate woman, her first marriage was with Zahid Khan, who is  a resident of Tahaka Nagaria village in Bareilly. “As we never had kids in seven years of marriage, my husband married a younger woman and gave me triple talaq,” said Tara.

After getting Triple talaq from the first husband, she moved to her relatives. Her aunt fixed her second marriage to Pappu Khan of nearby Ghunsa village.  “Pappu would often assault me. One day when I resisted, he uttered the dreaded words and left me,” said Tara to TOI, whose second marriage ended in three years.

After her second divorce, she moved to her maternal uncle’s home, where she got married to Sonu of Ghundapur. He would beat her up often, one day he left her at her uncle’s home and uttered ‘talaq’ thrice and just like that ended her marriage with her.

Shamshad alias Nanhe is her fourth husband, she was reluctant to remarry but her family convinced her to do so.

According to reports, Tara made an emotional confession that, “Things have got very bad for me now and I am terrified that I will be on the roads if Shamshad leaves me. My five brothers who believe that I have brought embarrassment to the family do not want to keep me either. I do not want this marriage to end, come what may. But Shamshad behaves like the others. Where does a Muslim woman go? I have had enough trouble in the last 12 years and I cannot fight anyone or anything anymore.”

She says she will take the matter to PM Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath if need be. She is currently taking marriage counselling from a clinic.
