The Indian Olympic Association has annulled its earlier decision of appointing Abhay Chautala and Suresh Kalmadi as honorary ‘Life Presidents’ of IOA after a flurry of protests and boycotting by the Sports Ministry.

On Dec 27, the Indian Olympic Committee announced that Chautala and Kalmadi, both who have served as IOA President at different times, had been named as life presidents.

Protests erupted after the appointment announcement, since both Abhay Chautala and Suresh Kalmadi have confirmed connections with corruption in the past.

Initially, IOA defended its appointment, stating that the posts were ‘honorary’ and did not grant executive authority, but have now annulled the appointments of both Chautala and Kalmadi.
