People Are Really Upset About The Way This Chef Cuts Pizza

I’m not the most Internet-adept human. I should know better. I’m a millennial, after all, even if the word makes me cringe. Sure, I’m able to help my grandmother unsubscribe from mailing lists, and if you give me long enough I can find those shoes I really wanted to buy but never did in my browsing history. But I still don’t fully understand the cloud (where the hell is it?!), and I think working in an IT department would drive me to an early death.

That said, I do know how to read Facebook comments—and I read yours.

Sometimes they make me laugh, sometimes they make me want to cry, and recently they had me totally surprised. Why? You guys freaked out over something unexpected in our Everything Bagel Pizza video: The chef and mastermind behind the pie served at The Parlor in Dobbs Ferry, NY, cut slices with scissors.

Truthfully, while we were shooting, I was too mesmerized by the mounds of mozz and the #yolkporn to register the oddball pizza cutter. But you spotted it … and had a lot to say:

1. You found it bizarre.

2. You were disturbed.

3. You got your friends to back you up.

4. You called it a monstrosity.

5. You wondered WTF was going on.

6. You wanted everyone to chime in.

7. You were completely turned off.

8. You thought it was a big issue.

Look, I hear you — rather, read you — loud and clear. But think about it: Traditional round pizza cutters are the absolute worst. They never slice through the crust on the first try. You have to run the damn thing back and forth a million times, and it’s impossible to follow the original line, so you’re left with some seriously janky looking slices with cheese falling off of them.

That’s where scissors come in. Snip, snip and you’re done! It involves less work, gets pizza in your mouth faster, and it’s actually super authentic. Italians have been serving shears with big pies forever. It’s even how the country’s street vendors cut their pizza.

If you’re not still totally disturbed, turned off, and wondering WTF is going on, give scissors a try. Amazon’s got a whole slew of food-safe ones — even shears made exclusively for cutting ‘za. And if I can find those on the Internet, I must be more adept at the web than I originally thought.
