Sean Combs—otherwise known as Sean “Puffy” Combs, otherwise known as P. Diddy, or Diddy, or Puff, or Swag, or Sean John, or Love, or Brother Love—is a seriously rich guy. And we don’t just mean in names.

The rap mogul amassed a fortune over his lifetime in the business. And, if anyone earned the title of “self-made,” it’s Puffy. Here’s everything we know about where Diddy’s net worth came from, and just how much he’s worth now.

Diddy’s first job had nothing to do with music.

Diddy has always been a hustler, even as a kid. “I started my business career at age 12, delivering newspapers,” he wrote for Forbes’ 100 Greatest Business Minds. “I had a lot of elderly customers, so I would always put the newspaper in between the screen door and the door—that caring made me different, made me better than the last paperboy.”

Though the job probably only made him a few bucks a week, the lessons he learned about customer service clearly paid off in the long run: “If I give the customers my best and service them differently, whether music, clothing or vodka, I’ll get a return on my hard work.”

Diddy has a diversified financial portfolio.

In 1993, Sean Combs founded Bad Boy Records, where he signed artists like Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige, 112, Ma$E, Usher, Machine Gun Kelly, and more. “It was a gamble,” Combs told The Los Angeles Times in 1995 about his label. “But whatever I do, I want it to be groundbreaking. I think of everything I do as history in the making.” Though it’s unclear how much he’s made from Bad Boy, we do know that several of his own records—which he made under the Bad Boy label—went platinum.

Diddy also amassed serious cash thanks to his clothing label Sean John, of which Global Brand Groups purchased a stake for a reported $70 million in 2016. He also has a stake in the vodka brand Cîroc. This, Forbes reported, is where Diddy makes the bulk of his cash—somewhere in the “low-to-mid nine-figures,” according to the outlet.

“We’re selling 2 million cases a year,” Diddy told The Washington Post. “We’re the second-largest ultra-premium brand in the country, second only to Grey Goose. It’s been a dream story, what we’ve been able to do. It’s never really been done before, in terms of how quickly it’s grown.”

Diddy is one of the three richest rappers in the world.

Though Diddy was once the highest-earning rapper in the world, he has since fallen to second place—just behind his friend Jay-Z, and just ahead of his other friend, Dr. Dre. Forbes noted that these three aren’t just the wealthiest rappers in the planet, they are also the wealthiest entertainers. Period.

Diddy’s net worth is an estimated $820 million today.

With all that music, clothing, and vodka money rolling in, Diddy is worth a whole lot of cash. How much? According to Forbes, he’s worth about $820 million—and will likely become a billionaire in the very near future.
