China Places Visa Ban on Nigerians Following Coronavirus Outbreak

For some weeks now, China has been in the news for hosting the deadly coronavirus emanating from its city of Wuhan. In the wake of this, the World Health Organisation has declared this a global emergency. According to WorldOMeter, 427 death cases have been recorded, affecting 28 countries.

In the battle against Coronavirus, however, China has placed a visa ban on Nigerians. According to the Ambassador of China to Nigeria, the country is “concerned about the health of other nationals visiting China and has taken the measure to protect them”. Therefore, the embassy ceased the issuance of visas to Nigerians.

The ambassador added that a total of 60 Nigerians were living in Wuhan; China, although none had contracted the virus yet. He also expressed his gratitude to the Nigerian government for its support to the Chinese.

Meanwhile, in two weeks, The People’s Republic of China has completed a state of the art facility for containing the virus. It is one of two hospitals built for this reason, with a 1000-bed capacity.
