Which Premier League Player Will Win the Battle of the Golden Boot?

The Golden Boot Battle Turns Serious

Now we’re into the new year, the 2019/20 Premier League season is well over halfway and is getting into the business end of the action.

Unfortunately, for anyone who’s not a Liverpool fan, there’s not much of a title race left after the Merseyside team has won twenty-one out of the twenty-two matches that they’ve played so far, and remain undefeated. They now sit thirteen points clear of second-placed Manchester City, and they even have two games in hand.

So, barring the worst slip up in Premier League history, Liverpool will have finally ended those thirty years of pain since their last league title. But, worry not, there are still plenty of other battles left to be won, including which player will claim the Golden Boot.

The race to net the most goals before the season ends is hotting up and is filled with talented attackers from a range of teams. Plus, with the January window open and many rumours flying around about who could end up on English shores, more talent might be on its way. So, here is a quick rundown of some of the candidates and how they could fare going forward.

The Liverpool Front Line

The two African players, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, who are helping lead the Liverpool line have both managed to bag 11 goals each. It’s this kind of rampant consistency between their attacking players that has given Liverpool consistently short odds on betting sites like Marathonbet.

If Salah has a bad game, then Mane picks up the slack, and vice versa. Just pray, then, that it’s not your team they play when they’re both having a great game.

They both have good chances of adding to their tallies as the season progresses, but with Liverpool sharing the goals around the team more than ever this year, maybe they’re not the most likely options.

Spurs’ Main Man

Harry Kane has been Tottenham Hotspur’s one consistent in an otherwise topsy-turvy season so far. As Spurs have now moved into their incredible state of the art stadium and were coming off the back of getting to the Champions League final last year, big things were expected of them this season. Fast forward to the end of January, and they have sacked Mauricio Pochettino and replaced him with Jose Mourinho, and they sit outside the top four.

The England star, Kane has knocked in 11 goals and has at least given the fans something to smile about. That was until he picked up a nasty injury last week, and could apparently be out till April. Spurs and England fans will be praying for a speedy recovery, but with such a lengthy lay off it will be hard for Kane to snatch the prize.

Chelsea’s New Wonder

Stamford Bridge has been another stadium where there have been many ups and downs this season. Now managed by a club legend in Frank Lampard, Chelsea have had a heavy reliance on youth academy players due to a transfer ban. Though this has brought an inconsistency in match results, Chelsea fans are delighted to see young players make their mark on the pitch, and none have stood out more than Tammy Abraham.

The striker has netted 13 goals so far playing up top for the blues and even made his England debut this season. In fact, young Tammy nearly ended up playing for his father’s country, Nigeria. If he keeps slotting the goals home, I’m sure Super Eagles fans will rue his decision. Definitely an outside contender.

The Gunners Shooting-Star

Aubameyang is giving The Emirates plenty to cheer about

The Gabon star, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, is having another miraculous season in front of goal for Arsenal. The sharp-shooting forward has converted 14 goals so far and Gunners fans will have faith that their striker will carry on that form going forward.

After all, he’s certainly shown he can go the distance, what with winning the award last year (drawing with Mane and Salah) with 22 goals. In with a great chance of coming out on top.

Vardy Is Having A Party

Currently the Premier League’s top scorer on 17 goals, it’s fair to say Jamie Vardy is having a brilliant season. His goals have helped fire Leicester up to 3rd place, and they look set to gain entry to the Champions League next year – not many pundits had predicted that at the beginning of May.

Vardy has called time on his England career so he can keep playing at the top level for longer, and on the evidence of this, you’d have to say he’s made the right choice. As long as the Foxes’ striker can stay fit, then he’s definitely the favourite for the Golden Boot.
