Angelique Kidjo Beats Burna Boy To Clinch ‘Best World Music Album’ Award

SOURCE: Amala

On Sunday; January 26, 2020, all roads led to Los Angeles USA. You know why we were here, right? Right. We came to witness the 62nd edition of the Grammy awards.

“Glamorous” quite fits in the description of the timbre of the event: How else would one describe mind-blowing performances from music veterans? Top-rated personalities in the music industry from all over the world were also in attendance.

Following the course of events, ‘Celia’ floored the category. We recall that Angelique Kidjo, a Beninese music veteran, has 3 prior Grammys to her name. While she accepted her award, she dedicated it to Burna Boy. She had this to say:

Four years ago on this stage, I was telling you that the new generation of artists coming from Africa are going to take you by storm.

And the time has come. This is for Burna Boy.

Burna Boy is among those young artists that come from Africa that is changing the way our continent is perceived and the way African music has been the bedrock of every music.

Nigerians, including celebrities, have expressed their solidarity for the Nigerian Grammy nominee, prior to the event. The ‘loss’ however took us by surprise; chances were high that Burna Boy would clinch the category. In all, the International Recognition, at the very least, is worth the shot.
