GRAMMYs acknowledges Wizkid, Burna Boy, others; as Key Players of Afrobeats

SOURCE: Amala

A bit of euphoria is in the air as the spectacular Annual Grammy Awards ceremony is set to go down in three weeks; 27 January 2020. Even as we look forward to this, the ‘Recording Academy’ -responsible for presenting the Grammys- has decided to floor us with highlights from the African scene.

Earlier today; 7 January 2020, the body acknowledged efforts incorporated by some African artistes in putting out what we call ‘The New African Sound’. You guessed right; “Afrobeats”. According to the Recording Academy, “Currently, Afrobeats is the next international sound sweeping pop music”. This is quite a recognition and a big deal for the African society. Oh, and yes, we are proud of how far we have come!

In the wake of this, we are flashbacked to 2016 when the world had quite a sensational musical cuisine from Drake and Wizkid. We recall how the track; ‘One Dance’ mesmerised the very nerves of our soul and went on to bagging ‘The most-streamed song on Spotify”. What a feat! Consequently, Wizkid clinched what became the “biggest record deal ever for an African artist” from his deal with RCA Records.

The Recording Academy highlights all these landmarks, including Wizkid’s recent feature in Beyonce’s ‘Lion King: The Gift’ album. Efforts contributed by Burna Boy and Mr Eazi are also not marginalised. Not to forget Tiwa Savage’s mega music deal with Universal Music Group. Truly, all eyes are on Africa!
