With an estimated net worth of $5.5 billion dollars according to Forbes, the history of Mike Adenuga is sure to interest any Nigerian to uncover the secrets of his stupendous wealth.
And despite many unsubstantiated claims, I believe, cooked up by rather envious (or even super negative or small minded) people that in truth, Globacom belongs to Atiku or IBB or whichever bum it will be next tomorrow, and Mike is simply fronting.

Mike Adenuga is the second richest man in Nigeria. And trust me when I say that these 12 facts about the history of Mike Adenuga I’m about to reveal, most of you probably don’t have a clue about. Here we go:
#1. Mike’s trillion-naira worth stems not just from Globacom, but also from his two other successful companies, Conoil and Equatorial Trust Bank as well as a few other relatively “not-too-high-profile” considered investments.
#2. He actually worked as a Taxi driver and a Gateman in London to fund his education while undergoing his university years.
#3. Adenuga’s mother, Madam Juliana Oyindamola Adenuga was a very successful businesswoman, whom he apparently inherited his business interests from.
It should also be noted that she was foremostly against his entry into oil exploration, but he went against her and the rest is history.
#4. During his early 20’s back when he newly returned from London, his friends nicknamed him “the guru” and “the bull”. (But I think he prefares the former).
#5. Adenuga’s first ever business venture was importing and selling detachable car stereos, then he pivoted into Lace material importation.
#6. Under the Obasanjo administration, the military president revoked the telecommunications license granted to him by previous governments. Mike lost over $20 million dollars from that one setback.
In fact, he maintained the strong feeling that the president just didn’t like him.
#7. His second attempt at procuring a telecoms license saw him sink in another $20 million dollars that became the building blocks of what we all know today as Glo.
#8. For those of you who worship MTN, you probably don’t remember that back when they were fresh in Nigeria and they had the monopoly, they were selling Sims for a ridiculous N20,000!
Worse, they told us matter-of-factly that they weren’t going to charge our calls at a per second billing for the next ten years! Glo swooped in, crashed prices, introduced per second billing and saved the day.
#9. They say he is the most heavily guarded billionaire in Nigeria. Why? He’s survived a ghastly encounter with robbers that left him with several bullet wounds.
#10. The history of Mike Adenuga cannot be concluded without noting his rather extravagant charitable works. I mean, lots of haters often sneer that these rich guys don’t do any such deeds and simply lead expensive lifestyles. But here’s what you don’t know – Mike prefares to do his as quietly as possible:
Mike Adenuga once donated £25,000 Pounds for the surgery of a young man in University that was to be flown to London.
Other low-key donations include
N150 million to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, N500 million to the victims of flooding in Bayelsa State. N20 million way back when we witnessed the Ikeja Cantonment explosions, $1 million to the Super Eagles and so many others we’ll never know.
