There are many Interesting Facts about the constitution of India which are interesting and amazing to know. So, today while celebrating 68th anniversary of our constitution with is also celebrated as Constitution Day, let’s take a look at some of the most interesting facts associated with the formation of the constitution of India:

1.Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India on November 26, 1949 and became effective on January 26, 1950, the day we celebrate as ‘Republic Day’.

2.It was on November 19, 2015, when the government with the help of a gazette notification declared November 26 as the Constitution Day.

3.The constitution was a handwritten document, and not typed or printed, with as much as 48 articles, 12 schedules and 94 amendments.

4.With around 145,000 words, it is the second-longest active constitution, after the Constitution of Alabama, in the world.

5.The original hand-written copies of the Constitution are kept in a helium-filled glass case in the Library of Parliament House.

6.It took around 2 years, 11 months and 17 days for the assembly to draft the entire constitution.

7.A total of 283 members of the constituent assembly signed the constitution.

8.Dr. B.R. Ambedkar also known as the ‘Father of Indian Constitution’, was the first law minister of free India, a jurist, an economist, and a social reformer, was the Chairman of the committee.

9.The day constitution was signed, it was all rain and thunder outside the Parliament, which was considered to be a good omen by the assembly members.

10.Preamble was introduced in our Constitution in the year of 1976 by the 42nd Constitution Amendment Act.
