General skills set required to move to Australia as a Plasterer are as follows

• Applying and fixing plasterboard, suspended ceilings, fire ratings systems, acoustic plating, and composite wall linings to buildings, as well as the application of decorative and protective coverings of plaster to the interior and exterior of buildings.
• Determining plasterboard layout, and installing insulation and vapour barriers
  Measuring, marking and cutting plasterboard, lifting and positioning panels, and securing them to walls, ceilings and battens
• Preparing corner beads and securing them in position
• Fixing pre-cast cornices, panel mouldings, ceiling centres and other plaster fittings
  Covering joins and nail holes with wet plaster and sealing compounds, and smoothing them using wet brushes and sand paper
• Mixing and applying coats of plaster, cement and render to structures using trowels, and levelling and smoothing coats to uniform thickness
• Plumbing and straightening corners, angles and wall and ceiling surfaces
• Creating decorative textures in finishing coats
• Applying and finishing acoustic, insulating and fireproofing materials bonded with plaster, plastic cement and similar materials

Qualifications required to move to Australia a Plasterer

Plastering in Australia is a Skills Level 3 occupation which means at skills assessment we need to evidence a level 3 or 4 on the Australian Qualification Framework.

What does this even mean?
As a Plasterer you need to ideally have the following qualifications
UK plasterers moving to Australia: NVQ Level 3, Level two may be suitable with requisite work experience
South Africa plasterers moving to Australia: National Certificate: Construction Plastering
Canadian Plasterer emigrating down under: Red Seal

I’m a time served Plasterer looking to emigrate to Australia without qualifications
Sometimes at least three full years of practical hands on experience may substitute the need for formal qualifications although this is done on a case by case basis.

Emigrate to Australia as a Plasterer Stage Three
The plastering skills assessment process will likely take around 12 weeks from start to finish and, once successful you’ll be issued with an Offshore Technical Skills Record Certificate (also known as an OTSR). Your OTSR means that your qualifications and experience have been converted to the Australian equivalent and you can start work immediately.

Your OTSR also means we can move to the next stage of the Australian Permanent Residency Process, the submission of your Expression of Interest. From this point, providing the case runs smoothly, you have no major medical complications or serious criminal record we would expect your Australian Permanent Residency visas to be granted within 12 months.

Plasterers are eligible for both the 189 and 190 Permanent Residency subclasses which allow the holder and their families to:
Live and work in Australia
Enter and leave at will without the need for further visas
Access education
Access medical services
Sponsor other eligible family members after two years
Eventually apply for Australian Citizenship and Dual Nationality
