Auckland’s top 5 must-see views

Spoilt with spectacular views all around Auckland, we thought we would make your trip a little easier with a quick and ezi guide on our top picks for the best views of Auckland.

1. Sky High

While in Auckland, a visit to the Sky Tower is a must. Standing 328 metres high, the Sky Tower is the the tallest man-made structure in New Zealand and the largest building in the Southern Hemisphere. It has three observation decks which offer incredible 360-degree views of Auckland, spanning up to 80km.  Dare devils can also enjoy some extreme sightseeing on a SkyWalk, walking around the edge of the Sky Tower’s pergola, on a 1.2 metre-wide walkway 192 metres high.

2. Take a Dive

For astonishing views out across the harbour, you should give the Auckland Bridge Climb a go. This is where experienced tour guides take you up, under and over the Auckland Harbour Bridge on spectacular custom-engineered walkways that offer an exhilarating experience. If you’re a true thrill seeker, you can even finish off with the Auckland Bridge Bungy jump. An engineering feat in itself, the jumping platform is suspended underneath the bridge, overlooking the stunning Waitemata Harbour. This 40 meter jump gives you a whole new perspective of Auckland – upside down!

3. Island Retreat

Waiheke Island is a local and traveller favourite, voted as one of the top 5 places to visit in 2016 by Lonely Planet. Catch a ferry 35 minute ferry and head to the award-winning Mudbrick Vineyard and Restaurant where you can admire the beautiful views of the Hauraki Gulf, Rangitoto Island and the city skyline, all while sipping on a glass of wine. We also recommend Cable Bay Vineyard for its breath-taking views. With its modern sleek architecture, terrace bar, incredible wine and magnificent views you will not be disappointed here.

4. Coastal Escape

Grab your Ezi Car Rental vehicle and head out to Auckland’s rugged and beautifully wild west coast along the scenic road that leads to Piha Beach. As you are descending to Piha beach, stop at the lookout point for a fantastic view of the expansive coast. From here you can admire the black sands of Piha, with its wild infamous surf and the prominent Lion Rock that divides the north and south beaches. Don’t forget your camera!

5. Climb your way to the top

Just another short ferry ride away, we recommend heading across to the iconic Rangitoto Island, Auckland’s youngest and largest volcano, emerging from the sea just 600 years ago.  This is a popular half day trip and you have two options to reach the summit: by foot or you can join a guided tour on the 4WD road train. The summit track climbs through New Zealand’s largest pohutukawa forest and don’t forget a torch to explore the lava caves! The peak is 259m above sea level, providing spectacular panoramic views of Auckland and the Hauraki Gulf.
