In gay culture, Halloween isn’t just a holiday. It’s a marathon.

Sprawling across the month of October, queer communities across the country donned their skimpiest costumes to celebrate (as it’s been affectionately nicknamed) the “Gay Christmas” season. Like homoerotic shapeshifters, each reveler meta-morphed from event to event, embodying everything from scantily clad superheroes to sexualized cereal mascots.

In the spirit of the holiday, we’ve collected this goody bag of party pics, treating you to the tastiest tricks of Halloween 2023…

Halloweenie, Hollywood

Aptly, this year’s festivities kicked off in Hollywood with ‘Fred and Jason’s Halloweenie.’ Hosted at the iconic Avalon Theater, which has served as a litany of divas, over the years from Judy Garland to Lady Gaga.

This Rock and Rock-themed extravaganza benefited Project Angel Food and beyond, featuring a cavalcade of musical superstars, and costumes spanned across all pop cultural realms, from Lord of the Rings elven hotties to vivacious video game villains.

PUSS, DTLA

Later in October, the queens of SoCal traversed to the warehouses of Downtown Los Angeles for Ostbahnof’s PUSS party. The festivities showcased feline fierceness, expressed with kitty ears, jungle cat prints, and the radical inclusion of LA’s furry community.

District of the Dead

Over on the east coast, the queer denizens of Washington, DC spent an extended Halloween weekend at District of the Dead. Presented by KINETIC, the celebrations started Thursday with Cirque du Slay at Karma, where revealing Halloween costumes were juxtaposed with grotesque live performances.

Horror Story Scream Supreme, San Francisco

In the homo mecca of San Francisco, Polyglamorous and Mystopia teamed up to present the fabulousness that was ‘Horror Story Scream Supreme.’ This Halloween party flaunted a scandalously costumed crowd that made more than just our spines tingles.
