Dad is retiring next month after a long career. He’s a workaholic and is a little uneasy at the prospect of retiring. Your his daughter, and want to give Dad a nice Gift celebrating his long service as well as showing him that his new life could be just as exciting.
What are some good Retirement Gifts for dad from you, the daughter?
Dad is going to need is help transferring the time he used to spend at work into something useful. He’s going to have to get curious about certain topics and spend time on a new hobby. The best gifts are going to be change agents or catalyze him to learn more about new interests, not buying a watch.
Here are 5 good retirement gifts for Dad:
Admiral’s Warbird Adventure
Every man has a secret desire to fly high in the sky in a vintage aircraft. Fortunately, Pacific Warbirds has you covered.
Located in O‘ahu, Pacific Warbirds offers a Admiral’s Warbird Adventure that is the perfect Retirement gift for Dad. The experience begins as a member of the Aviation Detachment – on December 10th, 1941 three days after the devastating attack on Pearl Harbor. History comes alive once they receive their simulated Classified Intelligence Brief, similar to what you may have experienced in 1941, to assist them in their Route-Reconnaissance and Battle Damage Assessment mission. Then they’ll execute a Battle Damage Reconnaissance flight aboard the venerable U.S. Navy (AT-6) that many WWII Aviation Cadets experienced early in their training. They’ll see Pearl Harbor and O‘ahu from the air as the Army and Navy airmen saw it and fly the same routes the Japanese attackers used. The sights, sounds and smells of the military aircraft with its radial engine provide the experience of a lifetime.
There are two tours that Pacific Warbird offers. The Admiral’s Warbird Adventure is the most popular tour, but Dad may also enjoy a flight in our vintage warbird airplane with our Ensign’s Warbird Experience.
After the tour, aircraft fans and pilots would enjoy making a stop at the Pacific Aviation Museum, one of the top aircraft museums in the United States.
A new camera
Photography could be a great new hobby for Dad. Gifting him with a new camera could allow him to photograph his grandkids, nature, or whatever his interests may be.
If you do go the camera route, do your research and present him with a few options to consider. Price tags on photography equipment can be pretty high, so make sure it’s something he’ll enjoy before making the plunge!
Retired people love gardening because it’s a visual example of the growth going on in their lives. Plus, it’s a great activity to do with the grandkids!
Head over to your local nursery or Home Depot and grab a gift card, some handy tools and some seeds to plant.
An epic family roadtrip
Did you ever take a Family roadtrip when you were a kid? Consider retracing your steps with a celebratory family roadtrip to the destination you and your family once enjoyed.
For an optimal gift giving experience, dig through the old family photo albums and find a picture of your family at the original destination. Put the photo in a card and let Dad know that the first roadtrip of his retirement will be one that build on the fond memories your family has already created.
An iPad can be your retired Dad’s connection to your family through FaceTime, and to the daily happenings in the world. Just make sure you’re there to train Dad on the small details so he can enjoy the full functionality!
You want your dad to be happy and healthy for years to come. Make sure he has a new focus for his life going into retirement – that would be the best gift possible. It’s always the thought that counts.
What other good retirement gifts for Dad do you have? We hope you take one of these five ideas and give a great gift!
