It may seem odd given restaurants were closed for the best part of last year, but the winners of the UK Michelin Guide for 2021 were announced on Monday 25 January.
The headline news is that Helene Darroze at The Connaught (pictured below) and Core By Clare Smyth in Notting Hill both received the revered 3 Michelin Stars.
They join The Lecture Room and Library at Sketch, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay and Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester as London’s 3 Michelin Starred Restaurants.
London’s new two Michelin starred restaurants are A. Wong in Pimlico, Da Terra in Bethnal Green and Tom Sellers’s Restaurant Story in Bermondsey.
London has several new 1 star restaurants: Mayfair Indian restaurant Benares, Cornerstone in Hackney Wick, Davies and Brook at Claridge’s, Victor Garvey’s SOLA in Soho, Muse by Tom Aikens and Behind, a chef’s table restaurant in London Fields that has only traded for 3 weeks.
Those who have lost a star include Japanese restaurant Umu (demoted from 2 to 1 star), Aquavit and Jason Atherton’s Social Eating House.
Restaurants that have closed in the past year (and therefore removed from the guide) include The Ledbury, The Greenhouse, Roganic, Alyn Williams at the Westbury, Texture and The Square.
In the Bib Gourmand category for good value, new winners in London include Fallow on Heddon Street, Flor in Borough Market and Italian restaurant Legare by Tower Bridge.
