A new Korean Chicken Restaurant, an old Chinese favourite returns as a pop-up, an intimate kitchen bar from The Palomar team and a kebab-off in aid of Action Against Hunger.

Read our guide to the restaurant openings and news in London this January.

On The Dak

On The Dak, sister restaurant to the popular Korean street-food brand On The Bab and KOBA, will open in Covent Garden this month specialising in Korean chicken.

‘Dak’ means chicken in Korean, and the all-day menu at On The Dak will feature Korean fried chicken, chicken noodles, chicken soup and more, all to eat in or to go.

Poon’s

Poon’s was a feature on the London dining scene from 1973 – 2003 (gaining a Michelin star in 1980), and it returns this month with a three-month pop-up in Clerkenwell.

The restaurant will serve modern home-cooked Chinese food with a focus on fresh, clean flavours, authentic ingredients and a modern-take on classic dishes.

Poon’s opens on 17 February.

Kettner’s Townhouse

After a brief closure, Kettner’s in Soho has reopened as Kettner’s Townhouse, now owned by Soho House group.

Much like sister hotel and restaurant Dean Street Townhouse a short walk away, Kettner’s Townhouse has 33 bedrooms, but the focus here is on French food and a Champagne bar.

Sorella

Sorella is a new Italian restaurant in Clapham from The Dairy Group.

Expect food that will be inspired by the Amalfi coast where Sorella chef Robin Gill spent considerable time learning his craft.

Chucs Harrods

Chucs is opening a new site this month inside Harrods, adding to its Mayfair and Notting Hill locations.

The restaurant, specialising in the flavours of the Italian Riviera will launch in Harrods’ new Fine Watch Room, with direct street access and late-night opening.

Evelyn’s Table

Evelyn’s Table, from siblings Layo and Zoë Paskin (The Palomar, The Barbary), is an intimate eleven-seat kitchen bar serving modern European dishes located in the former beer cellar of The Blue Posts in Chinatown.

Seating only eleven at a marble counter facing an open kitchen, the space aims to be warm and informal, with plates being passed straight from the range to the guest.

Great British Bab Off

Stephen Tozer and Ed Brunet, founders of Soho’s gourmet kebab restaurant Le Bab have announced they will host the first Great British Bab Off on Sunday 11th February.

The charity event, in partnership with Action Against Hunger, will see Le Bab compete with four London restaurants for the title of the capital’s best kebab with all proceeds going to the charity.

The restaurants confirmed to take part in the inaugural Great British Bab Off alongside Le Bab are Yosma, Ikoyi, El Pastor and Pitt Cue Co.
