The history of the museum 

Founded in 1867, the Museo de Cera is located in a building with a rich past. If the walls could talk, they would tell us stories of the numerous riches of Barcelona’s elite that were once kept here. The neoclassic-style building is a 19th-century palazzo whose halls have housed “jewels” in the past, as they do today. Where once gems and money were kept, today they welcome personalities from film, theatre, television and fiction.

Tip: Take your time before entering the museum to admire the beautiful exterior of the building, a feast for the eyes of fans of classical architecture.

The interior of the museum is equally impressive, including the grand staircase at the entrance, which is another example of the architectural excellence of the 10th century. The hall, in Catalan Gothic style, is not only beautiful to look at, but provides a very special illusion for the eye. Prepare to be surprised!

What to see at the museum

In total, the Museum de Cera in Barcelona is home to more than 150 figures. You will find personalities and artists from the region of Catalonia, Spain and the whole world, but also some of our favourite non-human heroes from movies and television, such as King Kong or Chubaca. Many figures not only offer the opportunity for a quick selfie, but thanks to the matching scenery and seating, will transport you straight into the film. In addition to a regular visit, the museum also offers its visitors guided tours, audio guides or workshops where participants are introduced to the secrets of wax modelling.

For those who like it a bit spookier, the Wax museum offer a special kind of experience: the”Passage of Terror“. This section of the museum exhibits torturers, mass murderers and horror characters from film and television. Are you ready for a meeting with Freddy Kruger? This is where your worst nightmares come to life. For those who don’t have nerves of steel, there is the option of bypassing the horror aisle. Do you dare or not?

Tickets and opening hours

The museum is open from on Monday to Sunday: between 10:30 and 20:00 (last admission at 19:00).

For special opening hours on holidays, please check the museum website in advance. In general, the museum is also open on holidays such as the 8th of December.

Tickets can be purchased either on site at the historic ticket office in front of the museum or online. We recommend that you buy your ticket online in advance so that you can choose your entrance time and day and be sure to get in. Especially in high season it can get crowded quickly, and you certainly want to avoid long queues on holiday!

How to get to the museum

The museum is located on the famous las Ramblas of Barcelona and can be reached easily by public transport or even on foot.

Here is an overview of your options:

• Metro

The nearest metro station is Drassanes (line L3)

Other stations and lines that will take you to the museum: Take the metro to the Pl. Catalunya stop (L1 i L3) and walk about 15 minutes from there, or take the metro to the Barceloneta and Jaume I stop (L4) and walk also about 15 minutes from there.

• Bus

The bus lines with a stop near the Wax Museum are 59, D20, H14, V13 and V17.

• Train

If you are traveling by train you can use the FGC or Renfe trains: Plaça Catalunya station and from there: Walk down La Rambla, (15 minutes’ walk) or take the Line 3 of the metro in the direction of Zona Universitària, station Drassanes.

• Private

Car: If you want to go to the museum with your car or rental car, be aware that there is no free parking near the museum, but there is parking with hourly rates.

Motorcycle: There is a motorcycle parking lot in front of the museum entrance (Carrer La Rambla to Plaça Catalunya).
