With the beginning of summer fast approaching, and the heat coming on in Barcelona, it’s a good idea to treat yourself to an ice cream.

Gelaaatti Di Marco 

 

At Gelaaati, the Ice Cream making is supervised by the master ice cream maker Marco Di Consiglio, who has more than 20 years of experience and a great passion for traditional, artisanal ice cream making.

 

In 2006, Marco and his partner Dana Di Consiglio opened their own ice cream shop in Barcelona, Gelaaati Di Marco, where they elaborate traditional artisanal Italian ice creams as well as more modern, creative and surprising flavours.

 

Then in 2014, Gelaaati Di Marco entered the ranking of the 50 best ice cream shops in the world according to “Dissapore” and, in 2015, received the “Eccellenze Italiane” certificate.

 

At Gelaaati you will be offered a wide variety of products to suit all your needs. Ice creams made from organic, gluten-free or lactose-free products. They also have a variety of products suitable for vegans. Their ice creams are very healthy and easy to digest as they are low in fat and contain no preservatives or hydrogenated vegetable fats.

 

They insist on the tradition and quality of their products, using the best ingredients from Italy: IGP Piedmont hazelnut, Sicilian pistachio (Bronte), aromatic cocoa, Sicilian Marsala, as well as national ingredients such as Ordall peach, Gramona cava, fresh milk from Catalan farms, etc.

 

You can taste their ice creams in the shop, in cones or pots, but you can also take your ice creams home in packages specially designed to keep them in perfect conditions for several days!

Gocce di Latte 

Gocce di latte is another example of the Italian dominance over ice cream parlours in Barcelona that makes us green with envy and eternally grateful all at once. At this welcoming space you can gawp through glass at the on-site artisan processes of making ice cream and cakes.

Mateo and Rita opened Gocce di Latte in 2012, and in addition to the tradition of Italian excellence they bring an original and popular repertoire of flavours: turmeric, mandarin and rosemary, or cardamom and dates, for example. So precise are their creations that a bartender at a five-star hotel confessed that he was inspired by their ice creams to combine flavours in his cocktails.

OGGI 

This impressive ice cream parlour offers 25 different flavours of artisanal ice cream. Alessadro Gaetano, a partner at OGGI (Officina Gelato Gusto Italiano) opened his first space outside Italy, in Barcelona, and he prides himself on doing everything himself from scratch, without using pasta or ready-made ingredients.

The ice cream flavours on offer are refreshing flavours such as wild fennel, mint and basil – a Sicilian classic – which will appeal to the most demanding palates.

 

And if you need more convincing, know that OGGI are official suppliers to events in the Holy See of the Vatican.

Badiani 

 

The Florentine brand, which was founded in 1932, is one of the most famous artisanal shops in Italy. Its shop in the Catalan capital is the first Badiani to open in the country, following the establishment in London.

The first Badiani shop opened in the centre of Florence in 1932. After a long career in the gelato business, Idilio Badiani passed the torch to Orazio Pomposi and his two sons, Paolo and Patrizio.

Badiani Gelato is made in the oldest Italian tradition, taking into account modern culinary trends, and their ingredients are quality and seasonal, and carefully selected. They use only artisanal techniques. There is no place for flavourings or additives in the creation laboratory.

 

Their team of artisan ice cream makers, under the direction of award-winning ice cream maestro Paolo Pomposi, work tirelessly to create playful flavours that will tantalise your taste buds and bring joy to your day.

DeLaCrem 

 

DelaCrem is an artisan ice cream parlour with its own philosophy: they create each of their ice creams following strict artisan standards. The fundamental pillars are daily production and the meticulous selection of ingredients to guarantee the highest quality of the final product.

 

In short, owner Massimo Pignata and his team show pure passion for making their ice cream by hand, slowly but surely, and with pride.

 

Plus, during the production process, they use only gluten-free products, so that all flavours are suitable for coeliacs, and their fresh-fruit sorbets do not contain any derivative of animal origin so are ideal for vegans. And best of all, all their ice creams are low in fat, so there’s no excuse for not having ice cream.

Parallelo Gelato

 

At Parallelo, craftsmanship, proximity and seasonality are top priorities, and they use the best local products to make ice creams that evoke the sensations of each season.

 

Matteo, Marco and Francesco are artisans in the strict and traditional sense of the word; they do not use any finished product, such as processed hazelnut paste; they roast the hazelnuts and make the paste themselves. They use the best local products they have on hand, such as hazelnuts from Reus and pistachios from Lleida.

 

Whether you are looking for experimental, unusual flavours and textures, or the great classics, you won’t be disappointed.

Cosi Duci 

 

Get your ice cream served with a dose of happiness when you order Sicilian artisanal ice cream from Cosi Duci. Owners Fabio Pitrola and Laura Alaimo say it’s their generosity, explaining that they serve their portions up with shovels, not in scoops. They also opt for strong flavours with plenty of substance.

In addition to ice creams, they’ve reserved space among their pozzetti for their outstanding ‘granita’, a sorbet that’s much finer and more solid than the typical liquid ‘granizado’ slushie. In lemon, pistachio, almond, chocolate or coffee, you can drink it drowned in a glass of cold tea (a killer soft drink!) or devour it with a delicious and aromatic Sicilian bun, the classic Sicilian breakfast.

 

They praise the work of their Tuscan ice cream maker, Samuele Querciola, who crafts all the ice creams every day and excels in vegan varieties and citrus flavours like lemon and basil.

Cosi Duci have been around Barcelona for a while, however their old parlour was closed temporarily whilst they have been setting up a new and improved parlour which will be opening in 2 weeks time- mid may 2022 (so keep an eye out).

Gelatomania 

 

Gelatomania opened up in Barcelona in 2012. Owner Roberta Bernasconi’s life in the ice cream industry has quite the history. Originally from Lombardy, her father opened his Gelatomania in Milan in 1984.

In Gelatomania the ice creams are fantastic, whether you opt for one of the classic flavours (there are up to 25 of them) or creations that Roberta comes up with, such as the mascarpone cream with apple. Without coming off as pretentious, she claims to have the key to a good ice cream: a good product and the balance between fat, sugar, and air. Her workshop is in view of customers, and the prices are friendly.
