Honda Africa Four – Stunning Street Scrambler

We love dirt bikes and we love a properly done custom build, so this stunning Africa Four from Honda dealers Brivemo Motos is ticking all our boxes – it’s a beauty!

Taking inspiration from Hondas all-conquering Africa Twin, the mechanics at the Swiss dealership have created a monster scrambler, and what’s more they’ve made it look like it could have rolled straight off Honda’s production lines! Great work chaps

NOW THAT'S WHAT WE CALL A DIRT BIKE. KILLER LOOKS AND BAD ASS ATTITUDE AS STANDARD ...

BASE METAL

The starting point for the build is Honda’s already impressive CBR100R, a naked and muscular street bike – or ‘Neo Sports Café’ as Honda call it.

The stock bike already puts out 143 bhp, so has plenty enough power for an adventure bike project, so all the Brivemo team have done to the motor is to fit a sweet new exhaust system with a shorty carbon can to replace the enormous funnel contraption that’s on the standard bike.

To achieve the new look, the bike was stripped of all it’s bodywork in the dealership workshop, before being fitted with a set of Showa forks grafted from a CRF450R motocross bike, and the rear end has received a similar upgrade to the suspension with an extended linkage strut.

STRIPPED BACK TO THE BASICS. THE NEW EXHAUST LOOKS GREAT AND THE CRASH BARS ARE BEING FITTED

STOP ME, STOP ME

With almost twice the weight of the original ‘crosser to bring to a halt, the forks don’t maintain the CRF’s relatively small rotor, but get a massive upgrade to a monster disc and supermoto style four-piston caliper and colour matched brake lines.

IF YOU'VE ONLY GOT ONE DISC, YOU NEED A BIG ONE AND A MASSIVE CALIPER

With the chassis on the bench, the bodywork was heading for the paintshop, and Brivemo have picket a colour palette from the Africa Twin, with adventure sports logos and of course the Africa Four name.

At the front of the bike, a new headlight cowl is fitted too in the same colours, and these are teamed up with a new high level front mudguard, wraparound handguards with integral indicators fitted to the wide MX style bars . The rear indicators are slimline LED versions.

And as a nod to off-road protection, black painted chunky engine bars are fitted – nice!

GOLD STANDARD

The wheels were treated to a touch of gold too, to match the HRC look of the Africa Twin and these are fitted with super-chunky Continental TCK 80s.  With the exhaust out of the way, the wheel and tyre is fully exposed thanks to that massive rear-sided swingarm. Sweet!

GOLD SINGLE SIDER LOOKS A MILLION DOLLARS

The end result of all this effort is a stunning looking urban scrambler that will no doubt wheelie all-day long. And the build has certainly been appreciated by others – just the picture (below)  had a massive number of likes and comments on our Facebook page, and the bike has taken second place in the CB100R competition at the forthcoming Swiss motorcycle show in Zurich. Wonder what the winner looked like?

Whether the Africa Four has any particular off-road abilities is unclear, but with the motor retaining all the selectable power modes and technology of the stock CB1000R, then at least you could dial back the power to something sensible if you did take it on the rough stuff!

But when it looks this good – are you really going to get it dirty? This is a bike to be seen on, not to splatter with mud.

SADLY, THE CLOSEST THE BIKE HAS SEEN TO AFRICA IS IN PHOTOSHOP!

THANKS

Thanks to Stefan Seewer and the team at Brivemo Motos for the images and the information on the bike. If you want us to test the bike, we’ll be happy to help!
