New wakeboarding park to expand North Myrtle Beach watersports options

Opening in June, the Shark Wakepark 843 will be a full-size cable wakepark, meaning it will allow riders to be pulled by cables from a tower, without the assistance of boats.

The park will feature the tallest cable system in the United States and five towers in all, including a 2-tower cable system made by Alta Cable Ski complete with obstacles.

Shark Wakepark 843 will allowing seasoned riders and pros to go as big as they like, the park also touts itself as "one of the easiest systems to learn on" so novice riders or visitors who have never tried wakeboarding before, should feel right at home on this new Myrtle Beach watersports attraction.

In addition to waterboarding on a 25-acre lake, the park will also feature a, pro-shop, a wakesurf school and the "Shark Shack" a hangout with food, refreshments, wine and beer.

Also planned for the park is an Aqua park, an inflatable obstacle course and playground for all ages which floats atop the lake. The park, a popular attraction at many family resorts and vacation destinations, is scheduled for an opening in 2017.

The park is owned by Greg Norman Jr., a professional kiteboarder, wakeboarder and the son of golfer Greg Norman.

"Our goal is to grow watersports," says Norman Jr. via his website. "The wake park is the only way we can accomplish this. Bringing wakeboarding and wakestaking to everyone at a fraction of the previous cost without burning valuable fossil fuels."

Shark Wakepark 843 will not be the first attraction in Myrtle Beach to carry the PGA icon's "Shark" nickname — the senior Norman also owns Greg Norman's Austrailian Grille at Barefoot Landing and Greg Norma's Champions Golf Academy in North Myrtle Beach.
